BitchTrainerKy -> U.S. Mint goof creates 'Godless dollars' (3/11/2007 11:03:34 PM)

The U.S. mint recently made some new george washington gold dollars...and they missed alot of coins with the stamp. Was this a goof or did they really mean to take off in GOD we trust?

One can only hope they would take it off, not all Americans trust in God.

It strikes me that the US is in such disgusting shape no matter which angle you view it from, whether God is on your money or in your pledge should be the absolute least of your worries.

to some of us, it's a bit of a thorn in the side, anyway.

Get over it.  At least you have money.

I for one dont actualy make a habit of reading my money to see whether or not it has been properly stamped.  All I know is, its legal tender and it gets me what I want. So many people use their debit and credit cards for everything nowadays anyway, I am surprised someone even noticed a mistake that was on real physical money.

This isnt really news to anyone else but religious freaks and coin collectors. Still, if you find one of these coins, you may be able to make a buck off it. Apparently one of the "godless" coins sold on ebay for $6,000

I agree with this. They should take it off in my opinion.

well you better hope they trust in God since our inalienable rights are derived from Judeao-Christain Principles/Laws/roots, some that date back several thousand years

I have no problem in leaving the disclaimer off our coinage.  I'm sure there's a lout uproar though.

Those coins are probebly worth more then the gold their printed on if it was a mistake.

I agree, any mistakes made on coins makes them valuable down the road.  My daughter got one of the new dollars and the stamp is on the side of the coin, so be sure to check there before thinking you got one of the valuable coins.

My spawnlings got a couple of the new coins sent to them in Canada.  I noticed the printing around the thin edge, as well.  Definitely check carefully before rushing off to the nearest dealer.  It could save you some embarassement!

Coins from the Pittsburg mint are missing the stamping on the edge. The Denver mint's are correct. The first one on E-bay sold for $600 then when it was realized so many were missing God.... the value has settled around $50 to $60 per coin.

And we all know that Judeo-Christian Principles/Laws/Roots derive directly from God.

I did not claim I did not believe in a god source for all creation, but my beliefs are not Judeo-Christian, nor do I owe my liberty to Judeo Christianity.... you may disagree, that is fine with me, but I find this statement above slightly odd. Your beliefs are yours, I have never understood projecting one's spiritual beliefs on to others.
