losttreasure -> The Making of a Kentuckian... (3/10/2007 9:48:09 PM)

It has been a very long and tiring day, but after 12 hours of backbreaking work, FirmhandKY and I have finally finished packing my home in preparation for my move to Kentucky.   He is currently getting some much deserved sleep and in mere moments, I will be joining him.  Late tomorrow morning we will begin the long drive to my new home, and I am thrilled.

I thought I would take this opportunity to "chronicle" this moment in our lives, and throughout the day tomorrow I will update on our progress.

But for this particular moment, my "bed" on the floor is calling to me.  [:D]

Cool, you'll like Kentucky, it's nowhere near as hot as Texas and it has something called "trees."
Which part of Kentucky are you going to?

Thank you all for the well wishes!

It was nice to be able to sleep in just a bit this morning and after all the work yesterday, even the floor felt wonderful.  I have to make a small correction, though... I'm not sure what I was thinking when I made my original post last night, but we'd been working for nearly 16 hours, not 12.  Thankfully most everything we needed to do, we finished last night.  It allowed us this morning to have a leisurely wake-up, a bit of massaging and other "feel-good" things, and breakfast without being rushed.  I took care of the final cleaning while FirmhandKY loaded the last few items, and after putting my car onto the carrier and dropping off apartment keys we were finally able to get on the road.

No thanks to the GPS Domme on FirmhandKY's laptop (I don't like her), we managed to find the right highway and we're now settled into a long stretch of highway.  *sighs*  About 300 miles to Little Rock, AR where we'll change highways.

Anyway, it took a little fiddling with the wireless access, but I was finally able to get online.  This promises to be a very long drive, and being able to surf the web will provide a little more entertainment.  I have a library of books on tape, but unfortunately the truck we rented only has a CD player.  Of course, FirmhandKY might be just as happy about that... one of my favorite books to listen to on long trips is Harry Potter.  [;)]

To answer your question, Popeye, I'll be in Central Kentucky.  Still a couple of hours from FirmhandKY who lives in South Central, but a darn sight closer than I was.  I would have liked even closer, but I was limited a bit by my job.   By the way, I've heard about those things called trees... they sound pretty fantastic but I'm not going to believe it until I see it.

*sighs*  Are we there yet?

Oh, so you won't actually be "living together?"
What do you do for a living that's so limiting?

Quivver -> RE: The Making of a Kentuckian... (3/11/2007 2:09:18 PM)

How exciting!  I wish you both the best!!!

I work for one of those evil multi-national corporations that has offices all over the United States.  [;)]  Unfortunately, where I'm going was the closest location to FirmhandKY that had my position open... I'm in management.

We won't be living together full-time to start out.   Aside from the fact that to do so would require me to leave my company, it wouldn't be very wise of us to jump into co-habitating right off the bat.  Adding the stress of learning to live with someone on top of the stress of making such a long distance move and the stress of changing employment locations would just be... stressful.

Being just a couple of hours away will allow us to spend at least weekends together, and pretty much any other time we want.  This will give us time to build our relationship more on a face-to-face basis rather than the long distance that we are used to, without the shock of it happening overnight.

Ahh, ok, now it makes sense.
Read the "Vikings-Navigation" thread in here to Firmhand, I bet he laughs his ass off!

There's a bad girl lurking just beneath the surface of this innocent exterior.  She can be lots of fun.  [;)]

Thank you for the well wishes, NG.    We've finally stopped for a bite to eat...  in the town that is the birthplace of Bill Clinton, no less... Hope, Arkansas.

Sounds very wise, not that you asked my opinion. We're rooting for you!
