It depends how you interpret the title of the the post. If some low life is mugging you on the street and you can and do give him a good smacking I venture to suggest that you have probably stopped a crime.

Naturally the "gormless" Liberals fly off on their usual tangent and start discussing inadequate types beating the daylights out of children and conclude that smacking does no good.

Just read an article written by a Liberal who says he is a Liberal no more....guess why.
His daughter got stabbed by a street mugger.
The mugger spoke with a Jamaican accent but his colour could not be determined, it was too dark. lol

Naturally the socially inclusive police we have today put out an all points bulletin for officers to be on the lookout for any grandmother, race unspecified, seemingly behaving in a suspicious way. Thus it comes to pass that most street mugging is not commited by one section of the racial divide.
Amen here endeth the first lesson !!!

NG does not mean the Charles Bronson who was married to Jill Ireland and despatched street muggers without even breaking sweat.

I dont think so, but it is quite a controversial statement to make and I think some people would be concerned about "pc type" responses blurring what they are actually saying. I didn't see much of a backlash against the staement in any of the press. I am not against the use of smacking though I think there is a line between a single slap / smack and "beating a kid up". Also for some children it works very well. I remember being smacked twice as a child on both occasions for running onto roads - I still stop and look both ways when I cross the road, even on a one way street or a drive way. :)

As a parent I agree that children need stricter rules and punishments that are followed through like taking away toys etc. But in my own experience smacking has only ever ended in humiliation for the um and regret and bad feeling from myself . And thats not what I feel teaching our children lessons is about. Its all about communication. My friend smacks her um and he is the most horrible little boy I have met !!! He is rude and naughty and just veryhard to handle, she is always smacking him for something( on the hand we arent talking big smacks). My um was last smacked when she was about 3. She is so sweet natured and well behaved.
I prefer to carry out authoritoty and guiding her if she is naughty with my voice and through good communication.
