I wanted to read the board in it's entirity before responding.

I have a series of questions about the so called study done in order to find that college students are more selfish nowadays. Who conducted the study? Was it done by surveys or observation? Is there empirical evidence to compare the new data to data collected from other generations when they were in college? How easy would it be to replicate the results to the study? How long did the researchers spend on this? Did the experiment include several colleges from several states, did they randomize the participants?? (IE, not all psychology, business, or history majors, but a combination of major and year)

You see, there are several issues that go into conducting a scientific study that can be validated. I could hand out a survey to ten people and say that it proved my point, but I could have included leading questions that would allow me to prove my hypothesis.

I am a senior in college and for the most part I have had to be self focused. I've had a job since I was 10--delivering newspapers. I started working fast food when I was 15, worked my way up to manager. I know have an awesome job at a wireless company and go to school full time. I am sick of guys who are fakes and flakes, so yeah I am going to tell them to bugger off.

However, I would much rather make someone else happy than to myself happy. Perhaps that is part of my submissive side. I also know a lot of people on both sides of the coin.

I was once told by my grandmother never to depend on someone to do some thing for me when I could do it myself. That's coming from some one who grew up in the Great Depression. Certain times you have to be more focused on yourself and those you care for.

The baby boom generation includes people born from 1946 to 1964.
Unless I were going to Med or Engineering school these days if I were young I'd take a pass on college and start my own business instead.
A lot of the "degrees" they have these days are unneccessary.
A few months back I was at one of my favorite restaurants and a new waitress served me and we got to talking and she had just graduated with a degree in "Psychology."
Well, she's still working there so I guess the job market in that field isn't very good.
And people who want to go to law school and think they're going to be making big bucks will be in for a rude awakening.
There are so many lawyers now and the field is so competitive for business. They need to close a bunch of law schools for a long time like they did back in the 1980's until a lot of them retire.
It seems like every woman who got divorced and sold real estate went to law school at night and became lawyers!
What's wrong with getting a degree in electrical engineering? Or in some area of science?
That's where we need people to get degrees in.

i am a student....you need to be a little selfish or people will walk all over you here....if you just keep giving people will drain you dry....school is hard...being a poor student is hard....but....life is hard so i'm getting used to it

I'm a college student as well as working full time for my university. I just shake my head at the ones that whine and complain about how its SO HARD to go to school when theyre carrying their new razr phones and coach purses. I actually turned to some girl in line behind me at jamba juice when she was complaining about being poor and said "Look jamba is hiring" and she gave me a look like I ran over her dog. I didnt ask her to shovel shit with a teaspoon, and the jamba folks make good tips. she just wanted something to complain about

I counted 58 pages of lawyers in my local yellow pages.
Only 6 pages of plumbers and they do make big bucks!
How many in your area?
I'd be curious to do a comparison.

Typically 3 out of 4 fights or ahem..."misunderstandings" i've had since i've been 21 have been with college guys who enjoyed talking a bit too much or thought they where still in high school and that said bar I was in was just the cafateria and they could still try to mess with the guy in glasses.

College guys are fun, the skinny ones scream alot.
