He gives me love and respect ~because~ He has control of me. Well, at least that is part of the reason He loves and respects me.

I think it has to do with intention. I intentionally surrender to Him. I ~want~ to surrender to Him. I don't do it to try to smooth the rough edges - I do it because He is my Master. Of course this isn't stuff that would sit well with or be understood by many (any?) vanilla relationship gurus. Hell, if this stuff was easy, ~everybody~ would do it and we'd all have to revert to vanilla.

American culture doesn't seem to distinguish between being controlled and comprimise.  Comprimise means listening in an attempt to really understand your partner and finding common ground.  Comprimise is the basis of any good relationship in the bdsm world or vanilla world.  Being controlled is something entirely different.  Yet somehow, there seems to be little distinction between the two in popular culture.
