Congratulations!!!!!

Grapefruit juice. Lots of grapefruit juice. And brush your teeth a lot, that helps.

Best of luck!

Good luck.  I've quit approximately fifteen times within the last five years.

Been considering the same thing myself....Started about 6-7 yrs ago...Went to see "Body World 2" today at the Museum Of Science and Industry....had the lungs of a non smoker and a smoker sitting side by side....Very gross!...If that is not motivation I don't know what is....Oh the other reason is being able to stick around and enjoy a long and healthy life...Good luck.

out.

I saw that when it was in Boston. A real eye opener, ain't it? No pun intended.

Be very careful of grapefruit juice if you are on any medications.  It can be contraindicated with some drugs.

My thoughts are with you.  It's difficult, as well you know.  But you CAN do it!  Hell, I did and I have NOOOO willpower.

Congrats!  I quit three times last year, sexual abstinence is a bioch, so is dieting.  I just checked out some cds from the library called "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking"  It used to be so easy for me to stop, plus a pack used to last me nearly a whole week.  I really think they've done something to the cigarettes to make them more addictive, either that, or my hormones are out of whack.

Best wishes with your quit, hope to join you in the near future.

Rosa

I read somewhere that blowjobs were a resolute solution for this dilemma...unfortunately my ex won't return my calls.

LOL....this might sound strange....but when I get the craving for a smoke...and I have stopped a long time ago....chewing a tootpick helps....or a cock....but where a toothpick is always available and always hard....cock is not....

Thank you for posting that link.  I had thought I'd heard this information somewhere, but on one of those quite smoking sites a few people tried to convince me otherwise.  It was nothing for me to just say tomorrow I'm going to stop and just stop, now, I'll stop and have all kind of withdrawal  symptoms.  I knew something was wrong with these darn things.

Just means I'll have to work that much harder the next quit.  Maybe a sexual addiction might not be so bad after all, minus the bjs.  Hmmm, maybe I'll join the club of online wankers and also get a lifetime subscription to playgirl.    Just saying.

Good luck. My mother has tried several times over the yrs and always ended up smoking again.  I didn't know they were making them more addictive.  Of course a person's system probably gets used to the nicotine over time as well so the craving gets harder to break the longer you smoke too.  I've never smoked, and don't feel the need to start.  Besides which my blood pressure is high enough without me making things worse by smoking. :)

Tomorrow will be day 14 for me without a smoke, ask your Doctor for wellbutrin, it stops the physical withdrawl symptoms, so all you need to do is break your mental habits like smoking after a meal, or in a bar while drinking.

I quit nearly 18 years ago. The first month is HELL. I never slept for more than an hour at a time. Thankfully, my new partner and I quit together; we found something to do when we couldn't sleep.

Something that really helped me was the thought that I could leave the house naked...meaning that I didn't HAVE to have my little box of cigarettes with me. I liked that freedom. I also looked at the women around me that smoked and realized how unattractive it was. That helped me too.  Those may be shallow reasons, but I haven't picked up since July 10, 1989.

Best of luck to you. Just do it. It is within your grasp!!!!

Good luck, LTRsubNW. I think it's a good idea.

My mother died of lung cancer three years ago. While in the hospital in her last days, she said about smoking:

"Trust me - it's not worth it!"

I believed her. She was hooked up to a million tubes, and she was in misery. I felt so sad for her.

I quit 2 years ago on Feb 1st. I feel so blessed that I was able to overcome that addiction. I found a site that might help you. It has a quit counter you can download and some wonderful articles about the physiology of quitting that helped me immensely.

http://whyquit.com/

and here is a specific page I found very helpful

http://whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Symptoms.html

It talks about how long withdrawl really takes, because I think that telling people that quit "the first three days are the hardest" does not prepare them for the long haul. It does get easier, but the body still cries out for nicotine for a couple of months in a significant way. This site really helped me because it acknowledged that quitting is a process and it talked about the challenges one faces over the long-term.
