I got bronchitus and atelectasis (partial collapse of the lungs) and while getting over that I lost about 15-20 pounds a little over 2 weeks.  So if you go get something like pnumonia and wait a month or so to get it treated you'll probably lose the weight.

In seriousness, I used a slim fast diet for a short period to lose a little bit of weight when I hit a weight I really didn't like and wanted to shave off some pounds; it could probably be extended longer and allow for heavier weight loss.  I think for the long term a more normal diet and exercise are better though.

Not sure whether anyone has mentioned this but my suggestion is Eat Less !
It will work !

Excercise: most unlikely to do much , not because it wont work per se but because you are must unlikely to do enough of it !!

If you believe in Astrology then you have no chance of losing weight because such a belief shows the kind of mingled mangled thinking used by those who cant lose weight and say dieting wont work for them !

oh god, that was hilarious toserveistolive!

as someone before mentioned, skipping meals is a bad idea, and if you have that much weight to lose, seeing a doctor, nutritionist, personal trainer, or all three, would probably be a good idea.

tips?

True story. A guy I know who belongs to the gym I go to, spent 7 months on a diet of cabbage soup, lots of water, one can of tuna {in water} each day, and forty solid minutes walking on the treadmill five days a week.

His wife was all over his ass if he even looked at the McDonalds sign when they drove by it. - She stayed on him.....and would even come to the gym and read books in the lobby while her husband was walking. She'd even check upstairs to make sure he wasn't sitting around bullshitn'. In a little over seven months, homie dropped right around 125 lbs.  I wouldn't have believed it.... but I was there to witness the transformation.

Anyone can the lose the weight if they want to bad enough…..you just have to be in a situation where the pressure is on…and it’s too painful for you not to make the change.

In the case above…. The guy was probably gonna lose his wife of fifteen years had he not made the change. I think she did him a favor by scaring his ass.

Also - and these are my suggestions: limit yourself to two or three meals per day. Do not eat anything in between. Do not eat snacks. Do not eat after 20:00 o'clock (that one is from Oprah).

I would tend to disagree with this.  If you eat less, your body starts to assume that it may not be getting more food soon, so it goes into "famine" mode and saves the food up (stores as fat).  Everything that I've seen is to shrink the size of your 3 'normal' meals into 5 meals (2 of them being little more than snacks, but heck - that's about what most people have for breakfast or lunch, a snack).  Then again, most weight loss plans also suggest that you combine diet adjustment with increased activity.  The reasoning behind the 5 meals is that your body will go into "feast" mode, assuming that there is plenty of food and that there is no reason to save any of it, keeping you from gaining more than a relatively small amount of weight over a period of time.

The most important thing is to increase your activity level.

Thanks for the encouragement, even though I've learned to love the feel of lifting weights & running I still need to keep focused so I don't slip back. I never want to have to lose all that weight again.
