A question for all you heterosexuals……………………………….....
Over and over I’ve read profile’s who are seeking a ~feminine~ sub.
My question to you all is, what is feminine?

Think girly girl, skirts and heels, makeup all the time as opposed to jeans and sneakers.

We used to get up this big camping/canoe trip every year. It was pretty much a canoe down a river, get drunk and build big bon-fire affair. One of the girls that went every year would stay in her tent until her hair, make-up and nails were "as perfect.as they can be under these conditions"

That is Feminine.

Gee, that one is tough to describe . . . the best I can do is to describe what it isn't, so feminine isn't manly. If you saw the movie Monster, then Charlize Theron's character was not feminine at all, but outside that movie Charlize Theron is pretty damn feminine.

I'd also say that feminine is not just equal to prissy girlie girl because it is a larger grouping. Tomboys can be feminine, but butch isn't. Feminine smells nice; non feminine smells like Old Spice, diesel fuel, lard, or something else not nice at all.

That's the best I can do for what it means to me, anyway.

I tend to think of feminine as soft spoken, always presentable, kind, def soft and squishy, absolutely must smell good...gee, there's just so much...but at her core a steel rod to maintain her grace under pressure.

A feminine women is comfortable in her own skin.

Looks have nothing to do with it, it's all attitude.

A feminine sub douches every day and wears flowery-scented tampons.

I think either the female is feminine or she isn't.  I think its in her behavior and the way she carries herself and speaks etc.  A feminine woman is still feminine even if she's wearing workboots and jeans.  On the other hand someone can have a very feminine look and still not exude femininity.

a 'feminine' sub is sometimes known as a 'lipstick sub', as opposed to a 'leather sub'.

Feminity is a culturally constructed fallacy, propagated through the dominant ideology of those in power (male) in order to reinforce the patriarchal structures of our society through the hegemonic brainwashing of youth. This is done specifically by using ideological state apparatuses of the educational system, religion, and mass media.  Thus, feminity as an inherent quality in our species does not exist except for through the minds of those who invented it and who continue to perpetuate its myth.  Thank you for listening.

i agree wholeheartedly.

i'd like to disagree with the idea that feminine = girly girl. i'm feminine, and although i generally wear skirts and such, you will be hard pressed to get me in makeup (and He likes it that way), and i only get my nails done every so often. i don't do a lot of muss and fuss with hair or any of that. i generally don't wear perfume or use scented lotions because i don't like the fake perfume smell, although i'll sometimes add a bit of scent with essential oil.

i know a lot of girly-girls who are the last people i'd describe as feminine, simply because the way they carry themselves strikes me as fake, overdone, or just not natural to them.

I guess my feminine body is a culturally constructed fallacy too.  Who knew!     M

Why is this image turning me on?  Oh dear...

*slaps herself*

Ok, back on topic.  This is a really good question, because I haven't a clue.  When I was reading profiles and stuff, if I saw this kind of sentiment expressed, I just assumed I wasn't their type, and moved on. I guess I imagine it to be a more mature version of girlie.  And, when I think of a feminine woman, I always think of her as wearing really nice clothes.  Grace has something to do with it, in my mind.

I love LuckyAlbatross' definition!  Wouldn't that be the epitome of a woman.  It has been in word definition that I have observed very many miscommunications to take place.  Look at the variations of defnition here in just this small number.  I believe feminine and masculine behaviors are strongly determined by genetics and not by society or 'brainwashing'.  Feminine is delicate, grace, soft, silky, sexy and all girl all the time an attitude or aura the isn't determined by accoutriments but by behaviors
