I would disagree there. That is about things on the outside. A femanine girl can wear jeans and sneakers yet still look ALL woman as opposed to like an androgenous  tomboy.

Bingo...I was still extremely feminine when wearing my steel-toe boots and battle dress uniform.

I always concidered it to be when a woman loves her womanly form, and loves to bring out more. And to be honest, i don't think this is just a question for heterosexual.

I think everyone is going to have a different definition as to what feminine means to them.

To ME, it's all female wether they are in a dress, jeans or nothing at all.

It's a long complex thing, and you know I am not the type to explain myself, especially feelings in detail....that's a feminine thing.

Status: offline 		I absolutely agree with Marie and HisAnnabelle on this one.  Feminine is in attitude and demeanor.  Doesn't matter what a person is wearing, or how they're "done up."  My mother is one of the most beautifully feminine women I know, and yet she does her own nails, wears very little make up, and has always had a very simple hair style.  She is far from the fake, plastic "girly-girl" referred to in this thread.  Even in her 70s now, she attracts attention from men of all walks, and the way she handles it, with grace and charm, exudes even more femininity.  She is something to behold.

Status: offline 		The woman who wouldn't come out of her tent on a rafting trip until her hair and make-up and nails were "as good as they can be", I wouldn't consider feminine. Instead, I would call her high-maintenance. I would say a feminine woman in those conditions would be the one who was enjoying her surroundings, showed up in event-appropriate style, while still not knocking all the boys down to be first at the keg. :D
I would have to agree with grace and charm being among the key elements, rather than specific clothing or accoutrements.

Why would that pour petrol on anything? I've known some rather efeminate men and some very butch women. Masculinity and femininity aren't drawn from chromosomes :)

And there ya have it because I agree with this also.

I actually was thinking about this more after I did my usual flippant remark and to me it isn't a physical quality as much as.........an aura, or a sense of being.........I guess is the best way to put it.

And I dont think it comes from chromosomes per se either - unless some genetic relationship can be found, it seems to me to be more about the way one deals with others and the world. Though I also wonder, on the science side of it, whether hormonal make up plays any part in how one deals with others and the world?

By no means would a hormonal relationship indicate that an effeminate man must be gay or wants to be a woman, just as it does not indicate a butch woman must be lesbian or want to be a man though.

But we are on very vague territory here anyway, and maybe feminine is purely in the eyes of the beholder.

I wonder what characteristics a man must exhibit, in order to be judged effeminate? Would that shed light on what feminine is?

Status: offline 		To me, femininity isn't simply the clothes I choose, the extent to which I groom my body, or the manners that I display... it is a state of mind. 

I love being a woman... femininity, to me, is a celebration of all that being a woman entails.  It is reveling in my complimentary nature to those things masculine.  It is delighting in the response my nature evokes in a man.  It is being the yin to his yang and enjoying the sense of completeness it provides both of us.

It is knowing deep down that I am a creature unlike any other... one of mystique and intuition and a personification of those things that bring pleasure.  Femininity, to me, is providing the comforts that soften all the rough edges of life.
