you ever think about the one that got away?

(The sub/slave...the Master or Mistress...someone that things seemed to click with that didn't go anywhere.)

There are several that I still think about.  None of which I want to belong to, or pine over.  But all of them have a piece of me forever.  That's just the way it is.

One got away?

Not yet that I know of, but apathy killed the bald king of France, so I'll just have to ponder the predicate.

If one does get away, does that mean that he is trewly free?

Every day. I matured because of that relationship... and I learned a lot about myself, and my own bad habits... but too late to save that one.

Alot of good men have " gotten away" from me. Always my fault. Either I was a slut or I panicked just before the moment of total surrender

I often think of those I have lost or discarded along the way, but all know they are welcome to seek me again, and they usually do. It is important to take time to deliberate about matters of the past, and equally important to know how to see what lies ahead. I think that's why I have always loved Five of Cups in the Tarot deck; the image speaks perfectly about great regret, yet shows that we need only turn to see opportunity still stands.

Once in awhile. Last I heard though, he was on marriage number three, and the IRS contacted me looking for him. Maybe I am better off - d'ya think?

And then there is the one man I really did in fact, love totally - who shot himself to death in the head with a shot gun, in his living room (not over me - he was extremely depressed). Yes, death is about as far away as you can get, I think. Thank God I wasn't there - I could not have stood it, I don't think.

If ya'll want to trade sob stories, I have a few. But I think looking forward beats just about anything else - my grandma said once: "Don't look back - you'll break your heart if you do". My grandma knew a lot.

Of course, one can always learn something, if even just how to grieve, I suppose.
amayos, I think that is a beautiful picture of  the tarot card - I appreciate you posted it. You're right, the past has something to say, but one cannot discard the future due to past hurts.

Now I'm gettin' all wistful to the lilting melody of Julio and Willy crooning: "To All The Girls I've Gloved, Before"

To all the girls I've gloved before
And entered hard through their back door
They worshiped at my schlong
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've gloved before

To all the girls I once caressed
And bound with rusty wire, their chest
They all helped me to grow
(nudge, nudge, wink, wink, you know)
To all the girls I've gloved before

The winds of change are always blowing
And so I pull away
But the winds of change aren't the only things blowing
And I figure, what the hey
So, bitch, get me a beer
And kneel back down right here
To all the girls I've gloved before

To all the girls who shared my life
Who now are someone else's wives
I'm thanking all those guys
For prying off the thighs
Of all the girls I've gloved before

OH that's not fair....you made me spit good bourbon all over my keyboard!

FUNNY.

Oh, and to the OP:  They don't get away.  I hunt them down.

I don't think anyone has ever "gotten away".. we've gone our separate ways, both hopefully enriched, having learned from the experience. I don't regret a single relationship that I've been in, even the short ones or the bad ones, because they have all taught me very important things about myself and the world. I'm always sad to see relationships end, yes, but every ending is a new beginning as they say.

Comic relief just when we needed it. Thanks, Noah.
I wasn't trying to be a real sad sack - I am glad someone change the circuitry in my head just now. Good poem (song, whatever).

Not gotten away exactly, but though I'm very happy at the moment, I still have a "eyes bigger than my stomach" syndrome with male submissives. There are a few who aren't mine but who still cause me to "think."

Okay. I will look at it. I was NOT making fun of you, btw. I am simply saying well - maybe I was saying looking back is really painful for me  - and so I just sometimes refuse to do it at all. Maybe it's stupid, but I am relatively content. Stupid and happy ain't a bad combo - ya know?

P.S. Michael - you've got mail - and thanks for the kind letter. That is nice. I've been sort of maudlin all day - it's not you - my dog is deathly ill also - I am worried about him too (only those with pets will understand). But anyway - I'm over that guy, and it was over 17 years ago anyway. It's a great thread, Michael, and I am glad you started it.

Amayos,I was going to say almost the exact same thing....but alas , you stole my thunder.

So the only thing I can think of now is...."To all of those women who left me." (none really come to mind...but I'm on a roll and standing naked outside a bowling alley procaiming this thought towards God)  "Uh hem."(clearing throat...for proper modulation) "To all of those women who got away....I hope you are all really fat now."

out.

I agree with amayos (amayos is a wise man, I think) - Those who learn nothing from the past sometimes I do think are bound to repeat it. The past has something to say.

I just get kind of well - there are-were some really hard things (everybody has 'em), and it's just I have grown comfortable just moving on - but I did think about them, and I did learn something. For years I numbed it all out with alcolhol, but things got to a point that didn't work anymore, so I quit doing that. And now at 46 I finally feel relatively free (finally). But there are things I did and I did learn something - that I would never do those things again (the things I had a choice about - and some I had no choice about).  But enough whining - it is a good thread topic.

All the time.  He's a very special person and I often wonder what life would have been like if we had been able to explore things.

The few Doms i've had any affection for are still my friends and a couple of them i speak with often.  There is only one, where we danced around a relationship for years without ever really forming one.  But i can't make someone want to give more than they are prepared to give and i finally, finally, ended the "dance".  i still wish things had turned out differently, but they didn't and i'm satisfied with my decision and strength to finally walk away for good, and forever.
