ORIGINAL: WyrdRich Since the anti-war left is probably going to split the Dems, this guy is welcome to any religious right types he can get. Make it a 4-way race. At least it would be fun to watch the debates. You know, the pro-peace constituency these days looks like this: quote:
Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling the situation in Iraq?" 65% no 33% yes quote:
All in all, do you think the situation in Iraq was worth going to war over, or not?" 34% worth it 62% not worth it quote:
In your opinion, should the United States withdraw troops from Iraq right away, or should the U.S. begin bringing troops home within the next year, or should troops stay in Iraq for as long as it takes to win the war?" 19% right away 46% within a year 30% stay as long as it takes quote:
Do you agree or disagree with those who say that adding almost twenty-two thousand additional U.S. troops to those in Iraq right now will allow U.S. and Iraqi forces to defeat the insurgency and win the war in Iraq?" 34% agree 60% disagree And here is the most telling part of the polling that is germane to our conversation here: quote:
"Would you be more or less likely to vote for a presidential candidate in 2008 who supports a timetable for the withdrawal of all American troops in Iraq, or would it have no effect on your decision?" 38% more 12% less 46% no effect Now here is the link from which I got my information http://www.pollingreport.com/iraq.htm I just wanted to point out, if Bush is right, and there is even more pain and suffering inflicted on us over the next year, it will even further erode support for this fiasco. If the information coming out of Iraq is dire at the end of summer ( that is when we should see improvement supposedly) then I would guess republicans will completely abandon Bush if they would want to get elected dog catcher... because either way their careers are toast. I hope the best will arise from this situation, but I am dubious because the same losing strategy is in place.... so your assertion that anyone pro-peace is in a bad position come election 2008 seems erroneous at this particular point in time, because even the experts say the bloodiest time is yet to come... unfortunately for our troops and the people of Iraq
