Experience? That's the problem in Washington, there's too many people with too much "experience."

Brownback won't go anywhere, he's an "open borders" guy.

I have to say that I'm surprised after reading this thread. BrownBack the possible go-to-guy for the Republicans - Not a chance....he'll drop by New Hampshire this time next year.

I live in a town that's a virtual nest for Republicans......and the overriding sentiment has always been the desire to ''shrink'' the government and keep it out of people's lives.... not some utopian messianic state. Sure...there's a sector of Christian militancy within the right wing, but it's powerless and lives to be exploited.

Hell...most of them don't even like Bush anymore. The good folks at SMU are saying his presidential libary is not welcome in thier neighborhood.

Bush = Persona non grata = Texas

The problem I have with Lieberman, if you look at his voting record, is he is a man without any specific agenda that I can agree with or disagree with.

This raises a very interesting question (and holy shit, it's actually still on-topic).  Do we really want candidates with a "specific agenda?"  Ideas and goals, certainly, but I would prefer we elect an individual than a to-do list with extra-white teeth.

Senator Brownback has an agenda.  My Magic 8-ball says he would appoint Supreme Court Justices based on whether they would overturn Roe v. Wade, He would try to amend the Constitution to prohibit forms of speech he doesn't like.  And like everyone before him, he would find that life is what happens while you are making other plans.  What's he going to do then?

The election season is still young.  I have not yet abandoned hope of getting to vote for a candidate I think would be right for the job and the country.  I'll take common sense and values over an agenda please.

WyrdRich,  you and I have a very different opinion of the political structure originally envisioned by our Founding Fathers.

I vote for people who will "represent" my interests in Congress.  They even gave a major hint to those in the House of "Represent"atives that their entire political life is about overseeing my interests.

I could really give a rat's ass what Senator Brownback does in church.  I would vote for him based on his ability to represent the interests of our country AND his ability to uphold and further the principles in the Constitution.

I would suggest you google the "Bill Of Rights" and the "Constitution Of The United States Of America" and reacquaint yourself with the principles this country was founded on.

And precisely where in those magnificent documents will I find the Article that dictates how I shall make my choice at the ballot?

I don't want governance by CNN poll.  I want individuals of character, intelligence and integrity who take their positions as a sacred trust.  I want people of vision who can lead.  I want reason and discussion, not the knee-jerk yes/no of partisan agendas.

And I want a lot of debate and oversight and even a lot of gridlock, cuz those agendas make me mighty nervous.

Basically said he is a political creation who drones on what he thinks you want to hear, until the fog in your head clears and you wonder how he got his hand that far up your skirt.

That's not a bad line.  The problem is, it applies to about any politician of any stripe.  That's the job description.

Hunter Thompson is gone, and his remarkable gift of making up the absolute truth left with him.  I care about the opinion and hit pieces Rolling Stone calls journalism about as much as you likely care about the latest info on www.hannity.com .

The majority of voters in Connecticutt obviously liked something about Lieberman.

As you said, time will tell.

What exactly does Hunter S. Thompson have to do with what I said?

Confusedly,

What I am reading is that you want a person who will represent your interests.

Glad we can find concurrence of opinion.

He was the only reason I ever read Rolling Stone.  PJ O'Rourke was fun ("giving money and power to politicians is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys"), but Thompson was their gravitas.

"George W. Bush has always struck me like a man who would ask a woman for a hand job on the first date.  Some days she says yes, some days she says no.  Today (referring to speech he endured), she said no."

Matt Taibbi is an incredibly amusing and articulate and educated writer who is now one of their main contributors these days.  Might want to take another look.
