My teeth were yellowed because of an antibiotic prescribed to treat respiratory infections in childhood; plus I had to wear braces for 4 years. I paid about $300 for professional teeth whitening from a dentist. First, a dental hygenist took a mold of my teeth, both upper and lower, then a plastic cast was made for me to take home. I injected a bleach solution into the two casts and wore them over my teeth for a few hours a day, a few times a week, over the course of a month - six weeks. The results are definately worth the extra cost if you have yellowing from a similar set of circumstances. (Quite a few children of doctors and dentists born during that same time period have this dental discoloration from the antibiotic, because their parents had free samples of the medication.) quote:
ORIGINAL: SusanofO Whiter Teeth: With all of the teeth whitening kits on the market today, I cannot imagine why anyone would have to have yellow teeth. I do consider this somewhat of a "cosmetic item". Of course one could go to a dental office and spend $600 having their teeth whitened, and dental offices can sometimes go up to ten shades lighter on one's teeth in one sitting (or so I've heard) But - - Susan
