I think it's kind of macabre that they're airing this.

I don't.  It's not like they are showing the video of when he was killed.  It's more like a good bye.  Their way of allowing his fans closure.

I think it was more like they were forced to due to contractual obligations.
I doubt that anyone who knew and worked with him was very enthusiastic about finishing up that last documentary.

I got the impression they didnt really want to finish putting the documentary together as well. I would have thought though if they were dead set against it the tv station would have pulled it out of respect.

This is not the first time this type of thing has happened.  I am thinking in particular of Stephen King's movie "Rose Red" where they used a computer to finish off for one of the actors that died during the filming.

According to the msnbc article, Discovery Channel had ordered the program, and they finished it to fulfill the contractual obligation.  The last footage used in the program was shot days before his death.  Nothing remotely related to the day he died will be shown.

Steve did what he did so that the world could learn.  It would be a disservice to him not to watch.  Though I want to cry every time I see him in reruns now.

I don't find anything eerie about it at all.  Unfortunately people die in their line of work every day, but most aren't famous.  My guess is that he probably would have wanted it aired rather than just shelfing his work.

Death comes to us all...The question is how many of us will be lucky enough to die doing what we truly loved and lived for in life. Strikes me as a man with few regrets.

And although he will be missed by his fans as well as his young family...He seemed to have lived and died on his own terms...and there is beauty as well as dignity in that.

out.

There is a fantasy sequence in the movie "Beyond The Sea" where the older Bobby Darin and the child Bobby Darin are gazing down at their beloved dead grandmother in her coffin.  Their sense of loss is palpable.

The music swells in the background, and the child looks up at the Kevin Spacey and says "You need to go out there now.  I will be fine here."  Kevin Spacey turns and walks through the curtains to give his show.

I get all misty when I see that scene.

You're aware that Stephen King is a fiction writer, right?

I think he is trying to say that the person was not killed on the set of one of his movies.

How is it disrespectful to continue his life's work?  His legacy continues with the airing of the show.

Well naturally, but what I am saying is that a lot of people die during the making of films.  Brandon Lee is another one.  Is it disrespectful to him to air his film?  No, of course not.  It is a masterpiece and deserves to be shown.

The way I feel, it does not matter if it is fiction or non fiction, the deceased would no doubt want their legacy carried on.  I see it as a fitting tribute personally.

I thought I read on yahoo that they were going to be using footage from the day he died. I could be wrong, yahoo could be wrong, who knows?

My two cents is that Steve probably would have wanted it shown. I mean, its a project he literally gave his life to complete. Wouldn't it be sad if it just gathered dust in a vault somewhere?

Don't you think his wife would be a better judge of that?

Edited to add: how come of the five people that expressed the exact same sentiment, I was the only one that got questioned on it?
