Devilslilsister -> Glass Houses (1/4/2007 11:10:46 PM)

I've been feeling contemplative - be it from feeling unwell, hormones, or seeing the family.  It came to my attention today the hilarity of people.  Its absurd enough that i dont quite get it, yet i sadly do.  It seems to me every where i look people live in glass houses yet throw stones.  I also understand that its a symptom of their glass house.

i run into so many people spouting off the mouth of how much better they are then others, what they do is better, and how their "glass house" is sturdier.  I think what befuddles me is that many people cant see they live in glass houses or better yet they try and pretend they dont.

Why cant people see that they are not perfect and no one has a leg to stand on when it comes to putting another down?  It happens all the time here.  Bad grammar, the way you present yourself, doing the slashy thing, what size you are, how much money you have, and all sorts of stuff pops up.  I get from these posts a very high and mighty attitude and it befuddles me.  It befuddles me because some of the people on here are so intelligent yet they seem to not have heard of the old saying "blowing out your candle to make mine glow brighter"  I know its an insecurity, but i do not see how they do not see it.

It is easy to show our strengths, it is easy to show our better self - yet i find so few people able to show the full story.  So many live lives surrounded by the lie of how great they are.  Its like they fear their own faults.  They fear being seen less then perfect.  Why are so many people afraid of the truth, especially a universal one?  It is all just an insecurity of not being good enough?

Why is it so hard to stand up and say "ayep i've problems, ayep i'm not pefect, ayep i have my issues"  Is being better then another in some way, really how humans have learned to feel good about themselves?  Why is it so hard to be accepting of other people?  Is it that rough to look at some one and say "you are not perfect and you have faults, but thats okay because i do too?"

(aye and i'm going to add the disclaimer that i've been feeling unwell lately and its late which means i feel more like shit and i'm not sure if i am thinking clearly, but i'm going to throw this out anyways)

I could be seen as downright evil to someone with any morals at times.  That could be seen as a bad thing.

Devilslilsister -> RE: Glass Houses (1/4/2007 11:27:49 PM)

you think that others can not be the same?  You think that would give some one the right to say anything?  Morals or not, no one is perfect.

I have no idea what this means.  The same as what?  What would give others the right to say anything about what?  I'm also not sure where morals and perfection intersect.

sleazy -> RE: Glass Houses (1/5/2007 2:14:58 AM)

Morality is a vague concept to me. I have some, they rarely conform with what society as a whole would class as moral, and hell I will even admit some of mine are flexible according to circumstances sometimes.

I personally think people who live in glass houses should get undressed with the shades down unless they expect me to stand and stare :)

LadyEllen -> RE: Glass Houses (1/5/2007 2:17:13 AM)

Youre right DLL; none of us want to display our own weaknesses. I wont call them faults as that would imply that there is some standard which we are all meant to achieve, when the truth is that none of us can be perfect. We can be strong in one area, average in another and weak in a third, and that is regrettably and positively human.

The assholes in life are those who deny any weaknesses, or else put their weaknesses out there as being representative of themselves in my opinion; the perfect beings (who are far from) and those who seem to enjoy being seen as weak and/or offensive. Everyone falls into this trap some of the time,  and some people fall into this trap all of the time.

Most healthy people I think, recognise their weaknesses and try to do something about them - either strengthening them or putting them to the side to concentrate on those aspects of themselves which are stronger. There are quite a few healthy people on CM - not me by the way - but I wont name names as it might embarass them!

ExSteelAgain -> RE: Glass Houses (1/5/2007 2:45:02 AM)

DLL, nice insight. Yeah, we are all precariously floating in the cold vacuum of space on this ball of earth that could be pounded by an asteroid at any time and trying to act intelligent, confident and successful. Folks, all we have is each other, poor grammar and all.

Celeste43 -> RE: Glass Houses (1/5/2007 4:08:17 AM)

It is human nature to compare ourselves with others and to judge others by our own standards. And, quite honestly, some people do have their shit together a whole lot more than others. Some do work on their own issues.

As far as grammar, that goes under pet peeves unless there's a comprehension issue. If you write so poorly that people don't understand you, then it's time to start writing first in a word processing program and running spell and grammar check. Because the people who write so unclearly are also the ones who get very pissy when nobody understands them. This is a text only medium, if your text is unreadable then you might as well not write.

onestandingstill -> RE: Glass Houses (1/5/2007 4:50:21 AM)

I think we all see people tear others down because their own insecurities need building up.
The good thing is most people see it for what it is, and the one who thinks they are building themselves up are actually knocking themselves down in my eyes.
I too would like to see a more live and let live world, but what happens when someone's kink is killing someone? Are we all supposed to just turn our backs because we are not perfect? For me there's a fine line between right and wrong. We each have our own lines in the sand. I think we do need to be more accepting of others if they're not hurting someone innocent, but carte balance I'm OK you're OK over all is not a healthy way to run all things.

When you figure this one out, it would lead to worldwide utopia. It has to do with emotions - jealousy, avarice, the desire for power, et al.

And some people just plain suck.

Devilslilsister -> RE: Glass Houses (1/5/2007 6:17:24 AM)

Aaah.. so i wasnt completely out of it last night.  Mmake, i do understand it has to do with many emotions, insecurities, and what not.  I dont understand why most people can not see it.  Even well educated people.  I was having this conversation with some of my family yesterday, who are all highly educated, and god help me - they couldnt grasp it.

Onestanding, to me it doesnt knock them down in my eyes.  It only confirms to me what i am already saying.  I see it as a symptom of some insecurity which i think everyone on this Green earth has.  It shows me they are human.

Celeste, there are of course pete peeves.  Yet what makes one pet peeve more worthy then the next?  Is it just in your eyes or is it in the eyes of the human race?  It is perspective, is it it not?  Just because it is not a pet peeve for me, doesnt make it not for another.  Doesnt make another right in belittling another about it either.  Just because we feel a certian way about something, does not make us right.

Steel, ::smiles::  yes and nuclear bombs and world starvation and global warming and all sorts of things could happen.

LadyEllen, see i dont think it makes them assholes.  I think it makes them human.  Whether they live by their weakness or strengths, we are all still the same.  All still imperfect.  I think everyone lives by their weakness to a degree.  Some more so then others, some its easy to spot and others you have to really look.  My father is a good example.  A strong healthy, contributing and highly respectable person.  Yet all his accomplishments are driven by one of two insecurities.

I'm not saying that universally every human condition is okay.  My point is more along the lines of "why cant people get off their pedastools?"  The absurd part to me is how precariously they sit.

oh gimme a break, it's not that I suck...lol.
and were I to do as she said, the replies would run from "whiner" to a scathing critique about being negative, with a few more thrown in  about the benefits of being positive minded to make it look good, and a couple more analyzing the insecurities and self esteem issues I had that brought my problems about in the first place. Then a couple more "fix the root of your problem" type chime-in's before someone hijacked the thread. <----there's your utopia...lol.
supportive or sympathetic replies=0
but thats ok, you can still be an eloquent whatever-you-said.

uh huh........... beer vs pussy??  I'll have to have a read to see what you think wins out.. but i must say.. beer cant give head

and its been read and i think the law defense for pussy was lacking.  Where were the comments

"beer cant give head"  Point 1 to pussy

"beer cant get you laid"  Point 1 to pussy

"beer doesnt have an ass"  point 1 to pussy

That racks it up to

Beer 8
Pussy 10

Ah ha! we win

toservez -> RE: Glass Houses (1/5/2007 7:21:19 AM)

It is a shame and the hypocrisy of people making such judgments all the while getting pissed off if someone judges them is something that has always bothered me a great deal.

I will combine what Celeste43 and onestandingstill wrote, it is human nature to compare ourselves with other people and use our standards, morals and personal beliefs as the foundation of that judgment. It is our self esteem and insecurities that will determine the scope of that judgment. The more insecure a person is, the more it will be important to judge themselves superior in the areas they can feel that way and for some this will include shouting it to the world.

It is unfortunate, but life.

Devilslilsister -> RE: Glass Houses (1/5/2007 7:41:44 AM)

Thats why i find it easier to just say  "i suck"

Heh.  I am guilty of throwing stones from My house, no question.  I do it because My mood changes.

Now, with that said, there are two distinct groups in this world that should be the most tolerant of all.  Lifestylers and Christians.  Funny enough, they are the most bigotted and intolerant by far.  Noone else holds a candle to them..  So I guess what I am saying is that this whole lifestyle is throwing stones from a glass house.  They just do not see it.

Well sonofa...
So thats what been pissin me off, and how the hell can lifestylers be intolerant? I so agree, and had no idea. As a dom I've tried argueing the right and wrong of my paraphilia with vanilla women, lol, instant loss as soon as they utter the word "fair". Theyre usually no longer listening when you attempt to explain it's more about "consentual unfairness". But after a while you gotta know as a lifestyler, you got no place criticizing anyone for anything, as you have a builtin character flaw, and if you don't think so, it's been certified by the Bush Administration....lol.
Seriously tho, we should be the model of tolerance, excepting of course if we had those nasty mood swings, and with those all one can do is stick with the meds, and as I learned from a previous employee who didnt, because they caused impotence(according to him), not doing so causes everyone else around the moody one to suffer. He didn't think that was worth risking his manhood, but I disagreed and fired him, being in a mood...lol.
Anyway, thanks for pointing that out, as I was blissfully unaware, and being a PK, left the church only to end up here in a similar evironment...*curses*
Scary to think, had I not been using firefox2, I might have nissed your revelation, as waiting for IE to load it would have just not been something i'd have waited for.
..lol.

Does that mean that Christian Lifestylers are *twice* as intolerant, or is that an exponential progression?

*snickers*

~Fast Reply~

I think its because everyone has this deep rooted need to believe that they are unique and special. I'm not really sure why, and I would love to hear what people think about why we evolved this trait... but I shan't hijack the thread. [:D] Anyway, comparing other people unfavorably to yourself is a good way to make yourself feel special, and "my way is better than your way" is the easiest way of all. And of course, admitting your ways might have flaws is out of the question, since that would make you not so special after all. *Shrug* I do my best to admit when I am wrong, but sometimes my ego, like everyone elses, gets in the way.
