I recognize that people have very different tolerances and perceptions of pain. For myself, I have noticed that if I relax when I am experiencing something I consider to be painful, the feeling transforms into merely.....sensation. By relaxing into something that is painful, by not fighting it, and tensing around it, by not fearing it, it changes. It's a sort of meditative experience of pain, and makes me realize that when I stop identifying it as pain, and merely observe it, the experience changes. It may not be pleasure, but it's not exactly pain either. I learned this during childbirth and to this day, can't understand why other's think labor is painful. For me it was just feeling... very intense feeling, but not pain. I wonder if this is part of the experience of those who "enjoy" pain. Because they don't fear it or resist it, they don't experience it as pain.
