Am I naive to think these would be found at Blockbuster?   Sounds likely that I am

How would I be able to find them?

you'd have better luck at Amazon.

If your BBuster has an adult only room then go ahead and ask. That's what the clerks are there for. They have a computer Db to look up movies by title or Actor. They aren't there to pass judgement and lose a customer.

Having just watched Secretary again, id like to see more 'films' and less, porn.
Can anyone recommend others similar?

I didn't see where anyone mentioned this one, but they might have and I missed it. Check out "Preaching to the perverted".

Am surprised no one has mentioned "Quills" ... about the Marquis de Sade.  My last sub couple gave it to me.  Not great ... but it's hard to represent S&M well on film aimed at the general public.  I'm sure I've seen it at Hollywood Video (I avoid BlockBuster because they put non-sale items on sale tables ... a bait & switch at the payment counter!)  But it's also an older DVD ... so look for it in used Video stores.

9-1/2 weeks is a classic.  You can tell a kinkster by whether s/he understands the film. Conversely, anyone who says it's poorly done, hasn't a plot, or they don't understand it ... obviously doesn't have a clue about BdSm play.

Exit to Eden ain't a terribly classic film ... but I enjoyed it.  I love the female lead in it (yummy) :-)

Also surprised no one's mentioned some of the old classic John Wayne / Maureen O'Hara films ... the spankos love "The Quiet Man" ... and others where he puts her over his knee.

My copy of 'The Pet' will be arriving from Amazon, at a cost $5 less than from the distributor.  (It didn't look like the deluxe edition (from the distributor) would really be worth the extra money.)

I thought 'The Image' was pretty good.  I ran across 'Kinky Boots' in a store recently and was very pleasantly surprised.

For older, 'quasi-based-on-the-books',
'Eugenie'
'Justine'
'Fruits of Passion (Story of O pt. 2)'

For foreign films, try......
'The Frightened Woman'
'In the Realm of the Senses'
'Lies'
'Maitresse'
'Seduction: The Cruel Woman'
'Wife to Be Sacrificed'

Perhaps not the best movie in the world, but I thought not bad for what it was, is 'Gwendoline', based on the John Willie comic.  Tawny Kitaen stars.  Might be hard to find.

Of course there are the 'O' movie and miniseries.  On my shelf to watch but haven't gotten around to it, is 'Writer of O', a documentary on the book.

On the documentary tip, 'Fetishes', 'Headspace', 'Sick'

Lastly, a mainstream movie that I've always kept.  'Red Shoe Diaries'.

Others have already mentioned 'Secretary', 'Preaching to the Perverted', 'Exit to Eden'.

Jeff

Timedoutgurlie,
"Gerald's Game' Is a book by stephen king- I am  not sure if its been made into a movie or not. But although the book is good...the only real bdsm aspect to it is that a woman is handcuffed. That's just about the extent...but a good book none the less!

MrrPete - Thanks for the help

yessir07 - Thanks, I'll have to read the book just to see it for myself after hearing buzz about it before, but this thread has had quite a few say it wasn't really much about the lifestyle so now I can rest easier knowing I'm not missing much lol

I guess I don't have a clue.  I thought that movie was abysmal.  I thought the characters were a pathetic vanilla stereotype of dom and sub.  The entire film is a frustrating tease of potentially interesting scenes which fizzle out into nothing because the 'sub' keeps topping from the bottom, and the dom has absolutely no control over her whatsoever (except when he orders her to shoplift).  The neurotic relationship goes nowhere throughout the movie and our sub ends up an alienated, emotional mess.

I am actually surprised anyone would consider this a BDSM classic.  Could you please explain why?

I have watched *secretary* and Story of O which the quality of the movie was poor (dark).  I had ordered other bdsm movies and i never got them, custom stopped the package.  Too graphical or something like.  *sigh*.  They do have what they call bdsm movies, but they make me yawn............boringgggg!

Someone mentioned a movie *the pet* is that movie available in canada or norway????

It's not a movie and I doubt you'll find a copy, but the documentary maker Nick Broomfield made a very good docco called "Fetishes", focussing on NY's Pandora's Box fetish house.

I have that film and its one of the better documentaries.  I also read about another film I wouldnt mind seeing called ''Rachel's Attic''  about a woman who investigates the world of S&M clubs and snuff films in order to learn the truth about her sister's disappearance.

Another film with a D/s theme is Swept Away - the 70's version, Italian film by Lena Wurtmuller (sp?).  Two people, one a rich snobby bitch, the other a poor deck hand get stranded on a deserted island and the tables get turned.  The transformation of her persona is interesting.

y'all liked 9 1/2 Weeks? i thought that was like one of the worst movies ever made.
In the Realm of the Senses though - ah THAT was one of the best erotic films ever.
no one has mentioned Last Tango in Paris? "get the butter!" well it was ok.

NOT to be confused with the Madonna/Guy Ritchie horrible remake in 2002.

As for the Secretary, I found it to be about them getting over their baggage.  Yes, it takes the whole movie, but some people take years to come to terms with their stuff.  Many a Dom starts out afraid of their desires.  Many a masochist has gone through a cutting phase and in my experience, proper BDSM can get them completely over such.  Society tells us we are f-ed up and some of us internalize that before we can be free to be ourselves.  Did I miss something?

Look to foreign films.

Submission is one film that comes to mind, although it ends in misery. A man dominates a married shopkeeper and eventually demands she deliver her teen daughter up to him.

Camille 2000 isn't a BDSM film, but the sexuality is unusual. A very gentle story, a woman has fantasies about 'riding' but is ashamed to tell her boyfriend.

Belle du Jour is probably the best known. Catherine Deneuve fantasizes having mud and shit thrown at her and eventually becomes a prostitute.

Most of those are older films. I can't think of any modern ones I'd watch a 2nd (or even 1st) time.

I get this about the way many subs internalize and the movie represents that well. It was a movie where dialogue and plot may not be completely believeable, but it is a work of art that works on subltle, artistic and surrealistic levels. And, yes, many subs go through cutting phases.

Try "Maitresse"   It's a French film with English "sub"titles (but Dominants can watch them too!)  If you are familiar with the book "Sex Tips From A Dominatrix" there is actually a section in there for movies to try and get your partner interested in bondage types of scenes.  I have seen quite a few of them (Maitresse being one of them) and some of them are strange, but perhaps worth seeing.  Another movie with a funny scene of a Dominatrix is "Tom Cats", not a bondage film, but has a great scene in it.
