My dad's brother in law almost died in a car crash because his seat belt wouldn't come undone and he was upside down and in a ditch full of water that was quickly filling Waynes Car. He was lucky he was not drowned. It might be a small percent, but yes seat belts do cause injury or even death instead of preventing them.

....sad as that circumstance is, it is relatively rare compared to the number of times that seat belts save lives. Wear a seat belt but carry a knife in the car to cut it if necessary.......

and in times of an accidetn the knife would be where??

I used to work for a company that did accident reconstruction and provided safety recommendations to major automobile manufacturers.

Your odds of surviving a major crash plummet if you are not wearing a restraint of some sort.  Flopping around inside the car or, worse, being ejected means you get swept up with a wisk broom and hauled off to the morgue.

I am not sure what you mean by "worse injuries," since a 20 mph crash with a seat belt gives you a bruise on your chest, whereas not wearing one means you will probably get spine and brain injuries as your head cracks the windshield.

While it is possible that .001% of all accidents with seat belts cause worse injuries, the 99.99% of all accidents where they protect against worse injuries would be the color I am putting my money on at the roulette table.

sinergy  being a 4-9 lady I can tell you what happend to met he last time i wore a seat belt and had an accident....I ruptured 3 discs...becasu the seatbelt doesnt fit ME right  I am one of the few people that can be subjected to unnecessary injuries should an accident occur...I have had intestinal bruising with the last accident as well...I was in the er and had at least a weeks worth of excrutiating gi pain due tot he injury casue by the stress of the seat belt on my abdominal wall...the force of the seatbelt casued buising and i actually had to be monitored as if it hadnt resolved i may have endedup with a colostomy becasue of internal injuries...children are also at a danger to this .    During the last accident i also had a nasty cut on my neck again fromthe seat belt .... seat belt ARE NOT made for someone of my size....and like i said i am an adult and since the fact that i have had a head on collision while not wearing a seat belt and had no injuried...out side of the usual whiplash kindof thing and was injured in an accident where i did in fact wear the darn thing...well i donot feel it is fair that i be peanalized for being built anatomically wrong for the seatbelts currently onthe market...what am i supposed to do??  risk firther injury and wear one....not to mention that now that i have spent more than 10K on plastic surgery to reconstruct my boobs...well honestly Iknow that the force of a car accidetn and the seat bel that the implants may very well either become displaced...or even rupture!

I do not think that it is fair or even withint he scope of the law that i shouldbe forced to wear a seat belt!  but that is just me...And so i will pay the $100ticket i got last week...and wellif i get another one i will pay that one as well.  just my humble opinion!

It is entirely possible you might need to be in some sort of a booster seat due to your size.

A little hint: go to the manufacturer of your car and express your concerns.  The last thing they want is to be faced in court with a lawsuit that they did not do something to make your car safe for you.  I would imagine they would be very quick on figuring out a solution.

I would ask, however, that are you better off having seatbelt injuries than you would have been had no you not been wearing one?

I wont even watch.  I cant. My first boyfriend died in a car crash becasue he was turned around in his seat.  His baby brother was in the back, and whle he was playing with a toy car, he managed to hit and release the latch on teh restraint.  My boyfriend turned around to reclose the seat, and they were hit by a drunk driver going 90 through a stop light. The baby survived with barely a scratch on him. My boyfriends father was fine.  My boyfriend, however, flew out the windshield and died on impact.

To this day, I cant stomach parents who dont take proper care of children in cars.  Nor can I manage when I find out people drive drunk.  I have stopped talking to people for it, more than once.

Not sure how to add to this post....The fact that children are dying in these accidents is a tragedy. I am not trying to be an A-hole for saying this....Did you watch the other videos regarding the deaths of the other children killed due to car accidents?(attached to this video)

Sometimes it really sucks being a skeptic! I am jaded...and tend not always to take things at face value....However, the production of this video as well as the others are similiar and the responses were all about "Britax" car seats which manufacture carseats from infants up to toddlers "the parkway"....If you look at the coments regarding the video(at botttom of page after video has run) they are commenting on these particular carseats.

It is polished. There is a part about what happens when a child is wearing a lap belt and the head goes forward....I hate to say this...it has a very professional "feel" to it.
I googled the manufacturer quickly and just out of a sickening almost repulsive curiosity will try and find out more about the source of this video....But something tells me this is simply a commercial...Might be based on fact and perhaps it will save lives...but it is highly manipulative...because it leads one to believe that this has been put out by a grieving family not some company trying to sell baby seats.

out.
