You're on the right track, but only one horse played Mr. Ed throughout the entire series. You're definitely getting warm as far as the category goes, though...

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 1:29:37 AM)

Since we're at the top-o-page, I'll repeat the quartet:

Bruno
Pal
Suzy
Bamboo Harvester

And just a guess: "Real" names of animals that played in TV series of the 60s

Okay! A confirmation at google pops up:
Flipper: Suzy/Cathy
Gentle Ben: Bruno
Lassie ("Lassie Come Home"): Pal
Mister Ed: Bamboo Harvester

but, but... why not:

Fluffy ("Fluffy"): Zamba (a lion)

LOL!

Acer49 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 1:36:11 AM)

The Bruno Movie is Sacha Baron Cohen's top secret project based on his crazy gay Austrian character! he poses half naked on a horse
Bamboo Harvester was the name of the Palomino horse that portrayed Mr. Ed on the 1961-1966 comedy series of the same name
The HORSE PAL fly trap
Suzy 2 Horse Boarding establishment

Got it! Your turn.

Still awake... ?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 9:30:23 AM)

Not awake when you passed the baton.  Had to sleep in a bit after constructing a google-easy quartet.  Only one I could do, but I've got parts of another in the works that is totally google proof. LOL

And away we go:

Machias Seal Island (inc. North Rock)
Dixon Entrance
Beaufort Sea
Strait of Juan De Fuca

Probably can't be solved withOUT google, but give it your best shot before googling.

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 9:35:55 AM)

They sound like cold places, Lance.

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 9:36:30 AM)

Lighthouses?

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 9:52:20 AM)

Nope and nope.
Clue #1 based on fluffy's guess: it's a UNIQUE quartet - no more than four places so you're wrong on that basis.
Clue #2 based on dc's     guess: it's a UNIQUE quartet - no more than four places so you're wrong on that basis.

I love it when the clues are so easy to write. LOL

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 9:55:20 AM)

Boundary disputes between the US and Canada?

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 9:58:35 AM)

Disputed boundries between the US and Canada.

pfft!  That will teach me to wait to go potty.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 9:58:38 AM)

What?  Three minutes after I reject his first guess he has it!  If I wanted to be real picky, I'd make you say "current boundary disputes" but I'm not, so I won't.  That Jeopardy mind is alive and awake this morning, I see. Or else you can google faster than fluff. LOL!

Your turn, dc 'cause you have proper facilities installed near your modem. LOL!

fluff: if you'd said "current disputes" I'd have given it to you as being more accurate.

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 10:01:20 AM)

Here's one especially fitting for today.

NEW QUARTET:

1979
1987
1993
2000

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 10:02:30 AM)

All years that have Sundays in October?

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 10:06:55 AM)

Every year has Sundays in October. [:)]

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 10:09:35 AM)

The years of large Gay Rights Marches in D.C. with today's March being  the 30th anniversary of the first.

fluffypet61 -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 10:09:42 AM)

Sorry, DC, that wasn't me - i was channeling the Panda.

dcnovice -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 10:24:07 AM)

You got it, Lance! And to day brings another one. Your turn.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 10:32:55 AM)

Told you I was "working" on one that appears to be google-proof and here it is:

Northwest Territories
P.E.I.
Nunavut
Newfoundland & Labador

Not sure about Nova Scotia, so maybe it's a unique Quartet, maybe a unique Quintet (Oh damn!  Gave away the first clue!)

Gotta go to brunch with some buds, so don't expect a quick reply to your guesses. And I expect that's all they will be - guesses <EVIL GRIN>

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 2:01:16 PM)

He's baaaaack.  And not really suprized at the lack of guesses in the last three hours. LOL!
The more I look at it, the more sure I am that it's a unique quartet.  And yet,........not totally positive one way or t'other.

LanceHughes -> RE: What Do These Things Have In Common? (10/11/2009 2:28:06 PM)

I found a reference that proves 'tis a unique quartet.

Oh gee, I guess 'tis time for clue # 2 - geography ONLY, so get out those maps. <again>

AWww, teach, can't we have something more fun than studying maps all the time?
