I lost the google reference> commanded the Puerto Rico Division New Zealand had a force: Tonga Defense Force (TDF) came into existence at the beginning of World War II in 1939. Blast if I can find a German (or Italian) Force called the Japan division:

Sorry, but it's not military, cultural, or historical. Entirely geographical. To get to the bottom of it, study the clues I've left so far. The answer is submerged deep within the seemingly offhand comments.

Japan Tonga Phillipine Puerto Rico are all names of ocean trenches - hence the "deep" clues to get to the "bottom" of the answer which is "submerged deep" within the comments.
