I had taken my car in to be serviced in Ohio before I moved. A good friend of mine worked at the service station, however there was a second technicial who grabbed my file before he did and he was going over the car with me. Obviously, he figured becasue I had tts, I had never see the inside of a car, becasue while the hood was open, he kept waving his hand indicating in the general direction of the car but not actaly teling me anything. He kept adding things to the list of what was wrong with my car. I had come in to get the oil changed and have a few other thigns looked at. He went on to tel me that my spark plugs were worn (they get worn?) and I needed to replace my break shoes and pads. Then something about my shocks and struts being questionable. I raised my eyebrows and asked him, quite calmly, if I could have a second opinion. He asked why. I siad, simply, that THIS store had replaced my break pads less then a month ago, so I knew they were fine. Also, since my model car doesnt HAVE struts... I was a little concerned about his diagniosis of my probems. I offered to wait patiently. My friend came over and told me that my oil and spark plugs did need changed. I said OK, do it. He also said that there were several people who greaty enjoyed watching me knock the guy down a notch. He was a cheuvanist and had pulled similiar shit on other women before. Even if you dont really know what you are looking at, look unde rthe hood with them. It makes them think you might know, and makes them less likely to try and BS you. That goes for men and women. DV
