CANTON, Ohio (AP) - The Pro Football Hall of Fame induction became a family affair Saturday night.
Michael Irvin lauded the Dallas Cowboys family for inspiring him to make it to Canton. Thurman Thomas punctuated his acceptance speech by asking his wife to marry him again. Charlie Sanders finally got to say "Hi Mom."

Bruce Matthews campaigned to have his brother, Clay, join him in Canton. Roger Wehrli praised the timing of his election because it allowed his grandchildren to share something special with him.

And Gene Hickerson's son, Bob, accepted on behalf of his father, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Then Gene was brought onto the stage in a wheelchair guided by former teammates Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly and Bobby Mitchell - all running backs he helped into the hall.

And as a reminder, the Hall of Fame game, Steelers vs Saints, comes on tomorrow on the NFL network, which I don't friggin have.

Is it halftime yet?  [;)]

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (8/5/2007 7:33:23 AM)

Michael Irvin sobbed.

You shed a tear too, didn't you? It's okay to admit it..... [8|]

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (8/5/2007 8:00:33 AM)

I didn't cry but I got sucked into watching clips of it, along with an interview of Irvin and Jerry Jones talking about their relationship.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (8/5/2007 8:05:33 AM)

The part that got to me was when Irvin talked about how he didn't feel like he could tell his sons to "do it like your dad did", but had to tell them to do it like Aikman and Reggie White did.

His was the only induction I got to see [>:], but I heard Gene Hickerson's being wheeled out by Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly, and Bobby Mitchell was pretty emotional, too.

CANTON, Ohio – Michael Irvin helped Dallas win three titles in four years. Thurman Thomas helped Buffalo to an unprecedented four consecutive Super Bowl appearances. Bruce Matthews played more games on the offensive line than anyone in the history of the game.

Charlie Sanders was a pioneer for pass-catching tight ends. Gene Hickerson led the way for two Hall of Fame running backs and led Cleveland to 15 straight non-losing seasons.

When it came to Roger Wehrli, the significance of his enshrinement among six men in the Class of 2007 was somewhat simpler.

He was the only defensive player, which also makes him part of an increasingly rare group. In short, while defenses may be the catalyst for titles, they are decreasingly successful in helping players arrive at these hallowed grounds.

Looks like the SB Champs will be missing a major player this year, Booger MacFarland < torn ACL >. With Bob Sanders on the PUP, Harper and June gone, Freeney is going to be really earning his Tag money.

Geez, do people really watch sports anymore? Can't imagine why anybody would want to watch a bunch of half-wit, moron, cry-babies. Oh Yea...sports....payed millions for doing nothing. I'll pass.

CANTON, Ohio (AP) - Mike Tomlin got to meet "Prime Time" in prime time.
Other than that, he claimed, there was nothing abnormal for the new coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers about a 20-7 win over the New Orleans Saints in his debut Sunday night.

"The only thing that was really different was talking to Deion (Sanders) just before kickoff," Tomlin said after the Hall of Fame game. "I had never given an interview just before kickoff. That was the only thing that was new and exciting."

I can't believe the Saints just rolled over and died the other night. I know it's Preseason, but a little pride would be nice.

For those looking to vent their anger toward Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and his alleged involvement in a years-long dogfighting operation, a Florida company has created an opportunity: the Michael Vick Dog Chew Toy.

However, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday that Red Room Entertainment of Jacksonville, Fla., might have problems concerning the toy's legality and the company's intentions for making it.

The company, which is selling the toy on its web site, said it will donate some of the proceeds to the Humane Society.

Tom Brady is on the wrong side of 30 — for Patriot opponents.

While 30 years old may sound old for a quarterback who has been dodging tacklers since he first started wearing shoulder pads before he was 10, it is nothing for Brady supporters and Patriot fans to panic about.

A running back may start to go downhill at age 28 or 29, but that does not apply to a quarterback. Need an example? Hall of Famer Steve Young earned a spot in the Pro Bowl seven times. All of those invitations came after the age of 30.

DAVIE, Fla. - New Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter underwent arthroscopic knee surgery for the third time in two years on Tuesday.

The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., after Porter went there for a second opinion. The Dolphins had not yet received a report on what repairs were made.

“They decided to go in and take a look at it,” Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said. “They do say it’s something minor.”

Oh I'm born and raised in Pittsburgh and a Steeler fan. I just was hoping for more than a snorefest. I know it's not the starters, but these guys are fighting for roster spots. You would have expected more from the top offense in the league.
