Timmons has re-injured his groin and is out indefinitely.  Yeah, he's the one that just signed a contract a few days ago, the first rounder.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) -- Donovan McNabb says he doesn't need to be completely healthy to be a force in the NFL.

McNabb took part in the first practice of Eagles training camp Saturday, more than eight months after he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Tennessee.

SAN ANTONIO – As former NFL coach Bum Phillips observed his son Wade preside over Dallas Cowboys practice, he was asked if he ever had a problem dealing with a player in his nearly 35 years in coaching.

"Not that I can remember," Phillips said, hesitating just a bit under his trademark Cowboy hat. "Not twice anyhow."

That's an important consideration for the Cowboys these days because the face of the franchise is wide receiver Terrell Owens, a guy who wears controversy the way most people do underwear. Owens is known for clashing with authority. He is a man looking for unconditional love in a game where appreciation rises and falls with every win or loss.

Katy, that'll give the other rookie, Woodley, some extra playing time; he'll be a good one, I think.

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) - Jim Mora is so shocked about Michael Vick being indicted on federal dogfighting charges, the former Falcons coach doesn't know how he should feel about his ex-quarterback.
Mora, now the Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach and defensive backs coach after the Falcons fired him New Year's Day, has been in contact with Vick as he honors the NFL's mandate to stay away from Atlanta's training camp - and as Mora's replacement, Bobby Petrino, tries to shield Falcons players from their teammate's saga.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Tim Couch's agent sent a memo to all NFL teams a few weeks ago, letting them know the former No. 1 draft pick was healthy again and looking for a place to play.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were the first to call and Couch jumped at the opportunity.

He signed a two-year contract with the Jaguars on Sunday, getting a chance to revive his career as a backup to quarterback Byron Leftwich.

Mangini has a lot to live up to

The weather forecast for Day 1 of Jets camp on Friday called for clouds and showers.
Much to Eric Mangini's delight, the Jets coach received his first victory of the 2007 campaign: a hot, sunny, humid training camp day built for true football work.

The joke among the gaggle of media gathered in Long Island, New York was that "Man-genius" now had access to Mother Nature.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - One of Michael Vick's co-defendants pleaded guilty Monday to his role in a dogfighting conspiracy he says was financed almost entirely by the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.
As part of a plea agreement, Tony Taylor pledged to fully cooperate with the government in its prosecution of Vick and two other men accused of running an interstate dogfighting enterprise known as "Bad Newz Kennels" on Vick's property in rural Surry County.

"The 'Bad Newz Kennels' operation and gambling monies were almost exclusively funded by Vick," a summary of facts supporting the plea agreement and signed by Taylor states.

The NAACP is calling for people not to jump the gun on convicting Vick before his trial. Funny how the three Duke lacrosse players didn't get the same consideration.

Yes, the Dukies got the shaft.

HOUSTON -- When Regina Foster tells her son Reginald they're finally moving from an apartment to their own home, the 7-year-old with autism likely won't comprehend what that means.

But when he sees the backyard, he'll be happy and that's all that matters to Foster, a single mom.

"He'll respond to that," she said with a smile.

Foster's dream of home ownership is coming true thanks to Ahman Green and the Houston Texans. On Monday, Green made good on a promise to make the down payment on a home for a single parent in exchange for reclaiming his No. 30 from teammate Jason Simmons.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas should be feeling fairly comfortable right about now. He might have been the team's most expensive offseason acquisition -- netting a five-year contract that included $20 million in guaranteed money -- but he hasn't had to carry the weight that normally comes with such big money.

As soon as the Patriots completed a trade for controversial wide receiver Randy Moss in late April, Thomas was pushed safely into the backdrop. And to be honest, he's the kind of guy who has no problems operating without the glare of the limelight.

Thank you for that link.  Troy is great.  He is completely different off the field, not the animal you are used to seeing on game day.

My pleasure. Troy P is a unique guy, very humble. Kind of like me, it must be all that time I spent in the Himalayas. [sm=mrpuffy.gif]

I like the fact that he admitted that he and wife made the decision to remain in Pittsburgh, without knowing what sort of offer he would get.  He obviously wants to retire in a Steelers jersey.

Yes, finding atheletes (in any sport) that have team loyalty is rare nowadays; even if I don't like the player/team, I admire those that stick it out, in a way. Kinda why I'm sad to see Kevin Garnett going to the Celtics.

Culpepper to the Raiders.  Is this breaking news?  The first I saw it was on ESPN tonight.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (7/31/2007 7:34:30 PM)

I've heard that, but he'd be crazy to go there. He wants to be a starter, and he would, at first, with Russell unsigned, and Walter hurt. But..... you KNOW Russell will get signed, eventually, and he WILL start. Al Davis didn't pick him #1 for any other reason.

Well, hell.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Free agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper signed a one-year contract with Oakland on Tuesday, giving the Raiders a backup plan for top draft pick JaMarcus Russell
Culpepper, 30, worked out in the afternoon before a gathering of Raiders scouts and coaches. The workout was private and Culpepper left without speaking to reporters, but Oakland coach Lane Kiffin announced the signing shortly after the Raiders completed practice.

DG, that's gonna be awhile......

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (7/31/2007 7:45:29 PM)

Yeah, just a one year contract.  They will probably sign Russell any day now.
