I need the bye week more than Sanchez, Revis & the Jets. My heart can't take these nail biters.

Well I don't like Steelers either,  .

I suspect if anything like this happens again Big Ben gets at least a year away from the league whether there is a conviction or not.  If there had been charges filed and the legal troubles were ongoing he would be suspended indefinitely.

Hopefully he learns an actual lesson from this.

you are more optimistic than i am. he didnt learn from the first, which is why he got slapped with a 4 game suspension for the second.

i dont believe the Rooneys... or Pittsburgh.. will give him another slap on the wrist.

A lot of close games yesterday.  Looking forward to the power rankings this week.  The Cowboys are the most undisciplined team, when will a coaching change be made?

The NFL is full of thugs, have you somehow missed this fact?

Ray Lewis comes to mind.

On another note it appears from the reports on ESPN that this week was the last that anyone gets away with these helmet to helmet shots without a suspension. It should be real interesting to see how this one plays out in regard to who gets busted and who does not... or maybe it will stem the tide of these types of hits.

When the season is over.  But no point in showing Wade the door unless the red head is going with him.

Now I know this sounds stupid…but…never stopped me before. Rather than only depend on making helmet to helmet hits illegal, which will happen anyway just by the nature of the game, why not change the technology?

For instance… make the helmets with a webbed hard inner core but make the outside with layers of impact absorbing materials… perhaps as much as 3 to 5 inches.

Yes it will look dumb, something like the old leather but much larger… but… it would reduce concussions and neck injuries.

Actual honest to god rapists? Name another

Your telling us that in the history of the NFL there has never been a female who has been sexually assaulted by a player?

Big Ben may be a slimy dumb ass but could you point the date he was convicted of rape?

Here is his logic.  He hates the Steelers.  Therefore he hates Ben.  The alleged rape is incidental.  Hell I like the Steelers, he probably hates me too.

No, remember where he is from. His act is OLD here in Ohio. Girl in Georgia is tip of the ole big ben iceberg

Don't know you katy. how could I hate you?

But if the NFL would ever be consistent with the rules Harrison and Paluwhatever would be on suspension.

Oh, I was teasing you about the hate.  It's all good.

Re helmets - they do try new technologies, to make helmets lighter (less of a weapon) and also safer (still keeping them as protective as possible.

Sometimes those hits will happen, as part of the game, the speed of the game, the way the players move during play.  But there is no excuse for the type of hit that was made on Heap.  None.  Stay tuned for the NFL to start giving one game suspensions, I think it will happen.  The Rutgers incident scared a lot of people, and all of the concussions on Sunday.  The rules are not changing; the enforcement is.

I've worn more than one kind...none take full advantage of impact dampening materials..particulary exterior cushioning materials.
Open or closed foam Polyethylene materials could be applied over helmets and quickly replaced if damaged by use or weather.

I mean come on we can cushion the fall of sensitive electronics dropped from a few hundred feet on mars and we can't cushion a brain.

It's a bit surreal to realize that James Harrison just got fined more than I make in a year and it won't even phase him.

Merriweather got fined 50K for his two cheap shots against the Ravens. I'm in Rodney Harrisons camp : fines mean nothing, suspension works. Time to enforce the regs on those type of shots.

I heard Merriweather on the local sports station Monday. He said he and Heap are good friends and he called him after the game to apologize and Heap basically said: it's all good. No problem.

I found that odd. I wouldn't be so forgiving of my friend who could have paralyzed me or worse. Of course that's only one side of the story.

So any early guesses on who will be suspended first under the new guidelines?

I think suspension is the way to go.  Get taken out of competition + give up some of your income.  Interesting about Meriweather and Heap.  I do think football players are just different.  I can't imagine playing anything that moves as fast as the game does on the field and is so dangerous, it is a huge risk and maybe there is intimate understanding of this among the players.

I'm agreeing with KatyLied and mbmn: suspensions are the way to go, and the rules about what's a legal hit and what isn't aren't unclear.  The shot on Heap was the worst of the weekend, and that asshole should have been thrown out of the game on the spot.

This is the video that was sent to all teams and required watching for all players.  Regarding what is within the rules and what is subject to fines.

Random thoughts:

1- I'm thinking Wes Welker has competition for the best porn name in the NFL. Colt McCoy just may have a slight edge.

2- What's with all the haten on Brady for his new locks ? No one says a word about Polamalu or the many players with long dreads or braids.

2- Suspending a punter < Pat McAfee > for swimming while intoxicated < SWI > just doesn't make sense to me. SWI isn't even a crime. So what ? The drunken idiot took a dive into a filthy canal... waking up with all that grime on you is plenty punishment enough.

Of current players, yes.  however, the best name ever was Reggie Tongue.  as soon as he signed with the Jets, I had a jersey made up with his name & # (25).
