Peyton has the MRSA, I feel sort of sorry for him.  Did I actually say that?

SilverMark -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/28/2008 10:18:49 AM)

I have no idea what he has...Thier seems to be conflicting reports....I know what the Colts do not have....A running game, a defense or an especially potent offense at present....

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/28/2008 1:58:06 PM)

Well at least you have a punter and long snapper...

I see where there are conflicting reports as to whether its MRSA or just an ordinary staph infection.  Either way, it's icky.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/28/2008 4:01:45 PM)

The Colts also seem to be suffering from go-for-it-on-fourth-down-itis.  It's a serious disease that leads to blown second-half leads and disappointing losses.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/9/2008 3:10:49 PM)

I'm going to have to man up and say that it looks like I was wrong last year about the Ravens.  For one thing, I never imagined that they'd find an NFL-quality QB in Flacco.  They're not a great team by any means, but they're a hell of a lot better than I thought they'd be.

OK.  We'll see how they do next year.  They'll have the benefit of a last-place schedule, but I guarantee they will not have a winning season.  While I'm at it, I'll guarantee that the defense won't be as good as it was in 2007.  We can revisit this in a year and see who was right.

The roster doesn't "suck" as badly as you think, as the OL is young, the DTs are elite, the LBs are elite, and the FS is all pro and in his prime.

As many pundits correctly point out --- in the salary cap era -- the margin between winning and losing is small. The key to success is roster management, and BAL has not grossly mismanaged its roster. Ogden will probably retire, Ray Lewis' contract is up next year --- that will create cap space and new opp'ts. (As a small example.)

The state of New York City football(okay they play their fricking games in Jersey) seems to be very healthy indeed.Tenn.barely held onto their unbeaten status while facing the Chi,Bears today...and the immortal Rex Grossman was playing QB for chicago. If the G-men can get past Philly tonight I fully expect the Giants to be atop all NFL power rankings despite their 1 loss.
J-E-T-S...Jets,Jets....thursday night can't get here soon enouh, the stage is set N.E, against the Jets for first place on Thursday night....looking forward to it.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/9/2008 5:20:35 PM)

Beating the Bears 21-14 on the road was hardly an unimpressive win for Tennessee.  I'd still rank them above the Giants.  But the supposedly elite team that really was exposed this week was Pittsburgh.  I saw lots of power rankings that had Pittsburgh third in the NFL.  No way.  The Colts didn't even play a particularly good game and still beat them on the road.  (My No. 3 right now is probably Carolina or New England--in other words, some team that's not even close to the Titans and Giants.)

As for NYJ vs. NE on Thursday: What's Mangini's record against Belichick, something like 1-4?  I'd love for them to win, but I'd have to consider them the underdog.  Overall, though, I do think they'll make the playoffs.  Yeah, the NFC East gets a lot of pub, but take a look at the standings in the AFC East.  The worst team is 5-4!

Beating the Bears ,who had the totally bust Rex Grossman at QB ,whether on the road or not is decidedly unimpressive in my eyes.
As to Mangini's record against NE....not like they were coaching each other with equal doses of talent was it.This time around ,with Brady out and Favre in the playing field is a little more level.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/9/2008 5:32:48 PM)

I kinda think they had their best shot the first time around, with Cassel still unfamiliar in the starting role and the game being played at the Meadowlands.  And they still lost.  But we'll see.  Of course I'll be rooting for them.  Their O-line and D-line are both playing much better now than they did earlier in the season.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/9/2008 5:44:49 PM)

And so is Favre ,he finally seems comfortable in what to him veteran aside was a new system.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/9/2008 6:14:05 PM)

is Detroit ever going to win a game?

Well, what's funny is how bad the team looked during preseason. Jonathan Ogden had retired, the LTs in line to replace him were injured, and the starting CBs, McCalister and Samari Rolle, looked like they might spend the season on the IR.

On the flip side, the defense was returning with a ferocious front seven and the interior of the OL had been vastly improved. The team is now 6-3 thanks to to the LTs healing up, depth at CB, and a forgiving schedule featuring CLE, CIN, OAK, HOU, and MIA.

Its worth noting too, that BAL had TENN beaten and would have beaten them if not for a bogus roughing the passer call called late in the 4th QTR.

-------

Don't underestimate THE COLTS, whose defense is sneaky good. It does not allow big plays, it generates turnovers, and it pressures the QB.

The litmus test for BAL is its game next week v. NYG.

Brady Quinn will hold down the starting QB position in CLE for years to come. Crennel will probably be fired. Anderson will be dealt to another team.

Jay Culter has a spectacular arm. He's just amazing.

I love the WILDCAT offense. What a great wrinkle MIA introduced to the league.

Don't piss on PITT too much, they had the Colts beat but lost the game because of poor play calling. PITT should have nursed its 17-7 lead better and concentrated more on field position, ball control offense, and the occasional shot downfield. PITTs defense is stout. No one has run the ball on them all year.

I'm happy to see KC showing signs of life. The situation in OAK reminds me of Robert Irsay in BAL. I'm glad I'm not a LIONS fan.

The RB class of this year has to be one of the best ever.

I haven't taken time to read through the full thread.......So excuse me if this has been previously posted but....

Fuck the Eagles

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/9/2008 10:26:04 PM)

The Colts' defense is better now than it was earlier in the season, and the return of Bob Sanders has a lot to do with it, but I would never call them good.  And I'm not pissing on Pittsburgh; I'm just saying they're not the third-best team in the league.  Hell, the way Roethlisberger has been playing, I'd say they'd have a hard time beating the Jets!

The Giants were clearly the better team tonight, but they didn't look spectacular, either.  I still have Tennessee tops in the NFL.

SilverMark -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/10/2008 5:18:14 AM)

The Colts almost looked like the Colts yesterday! About freaking time! Still wish they had some BEEF up front to stop the run better.

The coaching staff suffers from an inability to make him rest a few weeks. He is playing with a separated shoulder and torn ligament in his thumb.  They need to make him sit out and rest the shoulder.
