Oh happy day, the Bengals and Ravens tonight.  I hate both of them.
(okay, Carson is a little precious, but I'm still not feeling the love)

Have you written Brett?  To inform him of just how precious he was on Sunday?

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Bills' Kevin Everett sustained a "catastrophic" and life-threatening spinal-cord injury and his chances of regaining a full range of body motion are very small, an orthopedic surgeon said Monday.
"A best-case scenario is full recovery, but not likely," Dr. Andrew Cappuccino said, one day after performing a four-hour operation on the player. "I believe there will be some permanent neurological paralysis. ... A full neurological recovery was bleak, dismal."

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Orlando Pace tore the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder in the season opener Sunday and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
An MRI exam Monday revealed the damage to Pace, a seven-time Pro Bowl player who was the first overall pick of the 1997 draft. Pace was injured on the first play after the two-minute warning while pass-blocking against the Panthers' Julius Peppers, minor jostling that didn't appear out of the ordinary.

Gregg Bell, of Associated Press Sports, is reporting that Mike Holmgren possibly has some sort of unique ideas on how Seattle's other backup quarterback Seneca Wallace can be used as a very special kind of receiver, once Seattle has another backup quarterback in place, too.

Wallace is a good all-around player. I watched several games while he was QB at Iowa St, and he did damn well.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Kevin Everett voluntarily moved his arms and legs on Tuesday when partially awakened, prompting a neurosurgeon to say the Buffalo Bills' tight end would walk again -- contrary to the grim prognosis given a day before.

"Based on our experience, the fact that he's moving so well, so early after such a catastrophic injury means he will walk again," said Dr. Barth Green, chairman of the department of neurological surgery at the University of Miami school of medicine.

"It's totally spectacular, totally unexpected," Green told The Associated Press by telephone from Miami.

I did not realize that the Pats had been in trouble last season for the same thing:

Last year New England was reportedly the impetus of a sternly written memo from the league office to all teams, reminding them that it was illegal for any club official to bring a video recording device into the press box, video box or onto the field for the purposes of taping an opponent's signals or play-calling gestures from the sideline.
In addition, Green Bay officials said that before a Packers-Patriots game last November at Lambeau Field, they removed from the sideline a man wearing a Patriots staff credential and carrying a video camera. The Packers, however, did not confiscate the camera.source:

It was that incident and an accusation by the Lions that prompted the stern memo about filming DCs on the sidelines. I thought it was a lot of non sense at the time.

I'm still in shock about this whole thing. I cannot believe the arrogance of BB to blatently flaut his disregard for the rules, despite being warned. And to jeopardize the integrity and accomplishments of the team.  I say BB, but the entire story isn't out yet. But I hold out little hope that he was not the mastermind. Difficult days to be a proud Patriots fan.

It will be interesting to see what happens with The Pats, will they lose a first round draft pick next year?  Beilichick will be meeting with the Commish to give his side.  The Pats are too good to be spying, I don't see how they need to have that advantage.  I can't believe that spying is the thing that makes them great.  On the radio this morning they said "take a way their first round pick next year and take away the word "genius" from Beilichick."

I agree, Katy, the Pats are good because they're good; the cheating isn't what did it for them. Unfortunately, a lot of people will never give them any credit now. I'm not sure what the punishment should be, either forfeit the Jets game and a #1 next year, or forfeit the next two #1s.

The Pats could lose a third-round draft choice, which is a pretty steep penalty. Others are suggesting multiple picks. Also, a one-game suspension is seriously being considered for Belichick. A lot of teams are suggesting that.

Goodell won't do the forfiet. From what I am seeing and hearing, forfieture is for violations that have an untoward effect on the outcome of the game. Since the videos were seized in the 1 st quarter, the info obtained had no effect on the game.

I've been a big cheerleader for Goodell and his clean things up approach, so I will accept whatever his decision is. I suspect it will be pretty harsh, since he and Kraft are friends and Kraft had some influence or gave support to Goodell's appointment. If he doesn't come down hard it will be seen league wide and publically as preferential treatment. So I am expecting a heavy penalty.

Good evening, mb. Any ideas on what it'll be? A 1st rounder, or a 3rd, like the article says? Either way, the Pats will be fine, as long as they don't make more of this than it is, as long as they don't panic, which I don't see  happening.

More pissing contests, Katy

quote:

Forget about suspensions and fines. The draft is the lifeblood of an organization – the tap that pumps in the talent and makes a team a champion. How strong a message does Goodell want to send to cheaters? There's no stronger message than stripping a team of a first-round draft pick.

The New England Patriots may have taken things too far, but Falcons players and coach Bobby Petrino said Wednesday that spying on other teams and trying to intercept signals is commonplace.

Most teams don't hire someone to illicitly videotape the opposing team's coaching signals — like the Patriots did last Sunday against the New York Jets — but trying to decipher codes, cadences and signals are very much a part of the sport, they said.
