I don't know if there are more sub males than dom males, but I do know the sub males inundate any new female profile with c & p mail. I've had a lot of doms who didn't read my profile write to me, but also a fair number who did.

As far as the survey referred to, if it focused on people at public events then it isn't an accurate count of BDSM folk, just of the folk who are public. There's a lot more of us who just live quietly, getting tied up every week or two, doing what we're told while also running our ordinary lives.

I don't have any deep insight regarding the male-to-female ratio online, but I want to add a note of encouragement for the frustrated men. Munches and play parties are very, very different from the Internet--at least that's been my experience. My observation based on the r/l events I've attended is that the male-female ratio is evenly split, or very nearly so. Often there have been MORE female dominants than submissive men; occasionally I've been the only man in the group with any submissive leanings at all. That's rare, but still, r/l is nowhere near the exercise in head-smashing frustration that online is.

Long ago, I used to attend munches all the time, but not even to find partners, but because it gave me the opportunity to interact in public with people who thought the same as I did. Unfortunately, in Michigan (where I just moved from) I found the munches to be very selective in who they would interact with when you showed up so that I realized that it wasn't the environment I was seeking.

Since returning back to Northern California, I keep telling myself I need to interact more with the community, and I actually have inlets to do just that, but I just don't seem to have the time that I used to have in my heyday. But I agree that munches are great places for meeting people, but I would like to add that they should be seen as social ventures, not hook up spots, because if you treat them as a place to "score", it can really defeat any chance you'll ever have of meeting someone significant. But we should all kind of already know that, I guess.
