SirEndipity -> She sent me 6000 messages! (9/18/2006 9:33:11 PM)

I sent someone a message.  She sent back 6000 messages!  Within the space of an hour.  The first one was just a basic response.  The second one was the text of the first one but twice.  The third one was the first one tripled, etc. etc.  So I just wasted minutes of my life I'll never get back deleting 360 pages of messages, 20 at a time.  And then deleting the notifications off my webmail.

Conclusions:
1) There should be a per-minute cap on how many messages you can send, no more than 5 maybe, certainly less than 100 (I think I saw about 140 messages per minute in some cases).
2) There should be a per day limit on messages you can send.
3) You ought to be able to do a mass delete on more than 20 messages at a time.
4) Blocking a user should allow you to automatically delete all the messages from them if you want.
5) Reporting messages should have some category that better fits this problem (the spam option, which I chose, says "This message appears to be a solicitation mailed randomly to numerous users" which didn't really fit cause it was not a solicitation and it was only mailed to me.

Maybe she had multiple personalities like you.

If you're going to make up shit, shouldn't you try to make it believable.  You want us to believe she sent you 100messages/min???    M

crouchingtigress -> RE: She sent me 6000 messages! (9/18/2006 9:44:14 PM)

sounds like a glitch

DiurnalVampire -> RE: She sent me 6000 messages! (9/18/2006 9:48:46 PM)

I am guessing thats definately a glitch, Ive tried to send 2 or 3 and the time it takes to do so is prohibitive.  theres no way in that short a time she could have sent that many. I have gotten multiple messages from the same person who thought the first didnt send, but it usually ends at 2 or 3.

Why the agressive answer?
I don't know if he is telling the truth or not, but this is his first post....

Sometimes it seems that people here is just looking for threads to participate in, just because they want to get another post, but not because they are really interested in what the others are telling

Sounds like B/s to Me, I mean a little realism, please.

Seems weird to me to read about a Dominant who wants somebody else to fix thier life so they dont have to be Dominat
about what is going on in their life.

Just me, etc.

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: She sent me 6000 messages! (9/18/2006 10:20:05 PM)

Perhaps you could donate the email to needy CM members, the ones who are withering away getting no messages.

This might be me just trying to get another post ...

Because it sounded like BS to me (in conjuction with a few other threads made today by new boardies), but didn't mean to offend your sensibilities.
I have high speed internet and can't get 2 messages through in 1 min, just found 6000 (and how this poster knew it was...) to be unbelievable, but I could be wrong.    M

MistressMaamNH -> RE: She sent me 6000 messages! (9/19/2006 2:28:59 AM)

I do not know about Collarme, but years ago, before AOL put up guards against this..there were programs that would "bomb" either email or IMs, so much so that the recipient would be kicked offline with the notifications. There was no way to delete them fast enough, and the moment you'd log back on, it would lock up your system again. Which of course, was the desired intent.  Some people just have no better use of their time than fucking with others.

Not saying that this is what occurred here..just that it is possible for a program to flood someone's system.

i run a mail host, and yup..   a software failure can do that, and the poor msg sender might not have had anything to do with it.  My server was shut down for the bounces overloading the system when some yuts with a name like UKLottoWinnings4U registered and spammed the known universe with crud... i caught and killed the account in less than an hour, but by then, we had "unknown recipient" return mails coming from every .edu address in the world, seriously.

What was horrid was the other customers of the mail system had their mail caught in the loop too.. so anyone that had sent out mail in the same 10 mins as our lovely "lottowinnings" customer also sent a gazillion copies of their last mail.   <blushes>   odd shit happens.

That may be true, and I am far from an expert, but surely there is a difference with the fact these are all internal email addresses and not worldwide?

philosophy -> RE: She sent me 6000 messages! (9/19/2006 4:59:48 AM)

....surely the exponential increase in the size of each email would have crashed the server somewhere? i cant be bothered to do the math (ie i cant remember how) but the last email in that series would be 6000 times the size of the first one.  Assuming the first one was, say, 1kb, how big would the last one have been?

KenDckey -> RE: She sent me 6000 messages! (9/19/2006 5:48:45 AM)

I have seen the loop occur so I know it can be real.   I got e-mail from a guy that was sitting in my office while he was sitting therre.  and it was on our LAN too.   ISD went nuts.

but I also think it m ight be someone who know how to use the control-c and control-v commands as well.   a good typist and good system could spit out messages at an unbelievable rate.

newly42 -> RE: She sent me 6000 messages! (9/19/2006 7:15:33 AM)

You didn't offend my sensibility, but it seems people here is always ready to criticize others.
I don't have enough time to be online as often as i would want, but any time i can, i enjoy reading what others who know more about life style write hear.
But never ends to amaze me how easy people here use his/her/their time to be rude with unknown people.
Then i ask myself. if that's what "life style" does to people who joins it?   I'm in charge of 45 men, i know how's to have the control in my hands.  However, i know how to be in charge with courtesy and kindness, and they all respect me.  It is just that i know when i have to push them, and when to leave they follow their own pace.
There are those here who really share their experiences and allow us, the "newbies" to learn about life style.  But they are also those who enjoy to be an "online bully".
I'm sorry if i sound childish, but this is the way rude answers to threads make me feel.

Have a nice day

P.S. sorry about my poor english, spanish is my native language.

Yes, well, i am actually far from an expert myself, or i'd have been able to keep the one yuts actions from hosing the normal users.   i guess i was just making the point that one oddball thing can set up a loop of actions that any server could do until it either breaks, shuts down, or is stopped manually.

While anything is possible, i would agree that it's more than likely a take off of the post in another topic where a lady posted something similar.

Okay, I feel duely spanked, and I suppose I deserved it if you feel I came off like an online bully.
Welcome to the forums newly42.   I look forward to more of your posts.   M
