*quick reply*

And now there is a copycat

 http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/CosmicJohn_CL_Experiment

*sigh*  Last night it was amusing.....now, not so much. The more I read and look at it from the reality angle, the more unsettled I get.

Kat...not so amused anymore.

According to this...
http://blog.wired.com/27BStroke6/index.blog?entry_id=1553329
it is illegal under Washington law....
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.73.060
But as a non washingtonian, I 'm unsure why they think that

theRose4U -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/9/2006 8:33:19 PM)

This is purely messed up. While I'm ok with listing sex offenders that live near schools and the like I have a problem with this. Consenting adults are replying to a personals ad, some better than others and instead they are going to lose their military clearance, marriage (ok so the guys an idiot and got caught but wifey doesn't deserve this) and possibly more. This is unfortunately one of my greatest fears come to life. Boy pretends to be something he's not to get attention and tattles to anyone with a net connection.

Caitriona -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/10/2006 9:33:03 AM)

I don't agree with what was done, but I suppose it's a risk that you take when you give out that sort of information.

My heart breaks for that woman (the wife) - poor thing.

untamedshysub -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/10/2006 9:50:09 AM)

you can goggle your screen name and it will come up so if you have something to hide or dont want people to know dont put it on the web.  If you are married and your spouse does not know that is cheating and you get what you get. Jason has issues he will have to resolve himself and if people beat him up for getting caught with their pants down that makes them just as bad as him. If you choose this lifestyle then its a part of who you are and if you are ashamed of it then why are you in it? never be ashamed of anything that you make a choice to do its who you are. Live life and move on its too short for regrets. The world is full of assholes that is why prepration H is such a big seller. lol

Rafters -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/10/2006 4:36:16 PM)

It's now a frontpage article on Wired.com, which in turn, just got linked to from major vanilla blogger bait sites like Fark.com.
and Digg.com
and Reddit.com.
Plus, Metro news which is the London undergrounds free daily paper

and news.google.com, has it on their records now

That probably pushes it past the hundred (??) million eyeball mark.

I guess the vanilla world has some curiosity

FirmhandKY -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/10/2006 6:22:43 PM)

Rafters,

The writer of the Wired article tags Jason Fortuny as a narcissistic sociopath.

No argument there [:D]

Jason type peeps are not unexpected online tho.
The more interesting bits is in the Doms getting thrown in front of the public eye, and how the public treats them. [8|]

RosaB -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/10/2006 7:33:50 PM)

Just a thought, Aside from my feeling that what Jason did was atrocious, might our clicking that link point Jason's site back to CM when they decide to collect info for his site to use for future purposes?  Also, in some way, does not each time we click on the link, are we not in some way supporting his deeds by increasing the traffic numbers on his site when advertisere look at the hits on Jasons site?  I'm just wondering, now, as an after thought.

Rafters -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/11/2006 2:11:15 AM)

The short answer are Depends and Not in terms of cash.

When you click your way around the net, you have the option of telling the page you're visiting, what page you came from. Look for phrases starting with "Referrer" in your webbrowsers documentation. Opera users can hit F12 and toggle "Referrer Logging" So it's up to you whether you have this bit of extra information turned on.

He's googlable
But I've made a point of linking to the reaction, rather than him directly

JF is getting free publicity.
http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/06/09/11/0539248.shtml
As to whether JF gets cash for this. Probably not, any revenue on his "free" livejournal pages is keep by livejournal. (Who remembers Geocities?)
His personal page doesn't have ad's.
He may be able to sell his story but if he gets convicted of a crime, then any "Son of Sam" laws

may make collecting money difficult.

But if he is a sociapathic narcisist, then he wouldn't be doing for the money anyway.

jesskitty -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/11/2006 11:51:58 AM)

i do belive it is something bad but at the same time i have to wonder do any of you guys or girls consider how ridiuclous these ads are? in my opinion anyone that would read an add like that on collarme.com or any other bdsm website would realize that the girl is either a troll, fake, or full of some weird issues and wouldn't be bothered by something that was really serious. if you read the ads at least in my mind they come off as extremly fake, most socially adjusted people wouldn't be writing so incoherently or so scattered and broken like these two ones are. so to me i don't think you could properly call most of those people that responded as dominats..some of them are but from what i've read most of them were either just looking for sex or sex and abusing the fake person. thoughts on the subject?

Padriag -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/11/2006 12:39:41 PM)

Things like this, which seem to be becoming more and more commonplace really give me pause.   What was done was wrong on many levels.  Its a case of intolerance and maliciousness, perhaps criminal behavior, and certainly socially destructive behavior.  My first reaction when I read this was to seriously consider pulling my own ad here at CM down.  Why?  Well, we know that CM has advertisers on its front page using fake ads.  I've posted about that in the past.  The ads use pictures of unknown women and claims they are from your home town, clearly they are not.  I can't help but wonder if these women know their pictures are being used?  If not (and I suspect they don't), then its just as wrong as what this Jason character did, not as malicious, but just as wrong.  And that makes CM wrong for supporting it by using the ads.  Given that little thought, I'm left wondering if I should have an ad here at all, how safe am I or anyone else here?  How safe are any of us replying to any ads here and what guarantees of that do we have from CM?

I don't have any answers to my own questions, and that gives me a lot to think about and worry about.  But then that's one of the far reaching problems of this kind of thing, all personals sites suffer because it raises issues of trust and privacy for anyone online.  We end up asking ourselves, how safe are any of us, and can we trust the person in that ad at all?  Something I don't really care for.  Some have said those men deserved it for responding a stupid ad.  I didn't read the original ad, but to me how stupid it was is immaterial because it won't be long before someone does this with a very reasonable and legitimate looking ad (assuming someone hasn't already or isn't doing so now).  How do I know any of you are who you claim, or you know that I am?  And when we feel it necessary to be that paranoid, how can anything good possibly come of it?

Lashra -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/11/2006 12:50:21 PM)

Yeah I did exactly that and found a bunch of my Collar.com forum messages on another site

Anybody hear of the latest booby trap for innocent Dom's? [;)]

Jason puts up a fake sub femme ad, then publishes the replies, which includes photos /realnames /work emails. Hilarity ensues

Bit of a clusterf**k alround

Personally, I hope every one of those fellows gets in touch with each other, spends $1,000.00 each, hires a great attorney and sues this pricks tail off.

However, knowing that the dude has posted in various venues his home address, home phone number and full name, something tells me there won't be anything (or anyone) to sue in about 10 - 15 days.

(Clearly this guy isn't Mensa)

PlayfulOne -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/11/2006 5:52:16 PM)

That is just wrong on so many levels.  that is a pretty low way to get ones jollies.

What idiot would have responded to that ad anyway, that was so over the top as to be unbelievable off the bat.

angelic -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/11/2006 5:56:22 PM)

so sad (imo)... all these lives potentially ruined by this guy.

anopheles -> RE: Jason Fortuny -thoughts / comments? (9/11/2006 7:29:21 PM)

This was one of the most ridiculous things I have seen on the net in a long time.  This guy clearly did it primarily for the "WOW" factor that he would get and drive up his blog site popularity, and if he doesn't had ads on there yet (i refuse to give him one measly page view to even look), he will soon, to take advantage of the "viral" advertising that will make him a little chunk of cash. It's already made the slashdot RSS feeds, digg, and who knows where else, so it will happen. One can only hope that he'll really tick his provider off with the massive traffic generated before he gets a good chance at that one.

A side note I was reading somewhere that this guy is a web designer (that's anecdotal, don't know if that's really true)??  But if it is how bright is he, if he expects to find good work in an industry full of nerds who read this sort of thing all the time, exposing himself as at best a real douchebag, and at best completely undeserving of someone's trust? I could see walking into an interview and immediately hearing, "Hey, aren't you that guy....." Nothing wrong with wanting to be famous, but doing your best to be infamous, I don't know if that's a real smart thing.

$1,000 each would buy an attorney and a few hitmen.

This isn't the first time someone pulled this sort of thing and I'm sure it's going to inspire plenty of copycats.  One of whom will try the stunt on the wrong person.

I don't know about you but I wouldn't be pissing off a group of people that potentially includes sadists with access to torture equipment and soundproof dungeons.
