I always thought it was like using a small diameter dowel like a cane for whipping the ass.
Ex steel I think is right.
It's just another expression for caning.

I suggest that you go to Home Depot, buy the biggest dowel they have, shove it up her ass and then say "Yeah! This dowelling is fun!".

If nothing else, it will teach her to be more clear the next time she tells you about her kinks.

I hope that he comes back & tells us what she meant.

As for some of the usages for dowels that have been mentioned here... not so sure some are a good idea.

I have used heavy gage dowels for spreader bars. I have also used various gages for a kneeling punishment. I have also used dowels in my rope work/bondage. As for using a small dowel as a cane... not advisable. The wood for most dowels would splinter, split & make a real bloody mess. Material that is difficult to splinter such as rattan or synthetic should be used. Bamboo is not a good choice even though so many people right away jump & say Bamboo canes... I really think they mean rattan but don't realize the difference. Once any cane shows any signs of weakness, discard it. Birch is most often used when bundling but I have seen many different types of material being used lately... key thing, make sure it is not something that will splinter easily.

As for shoving one up someone's ass... not so sure that one would go over real well either

but ya never know these days. I have had stranger things suggested.

*lol* I've actually seen them utilized to attach a dildo or vibrator as a means of stimulus while the dominant engages in other means of pleasure. From what I've been told they stay in place quite nicely.
