I corresponded with an individual on here through IM who admitted to being 15 years old.  I wanted to report her profile however in her text it says that she is 18.  When I tried to report her on the site to the mods, it clearly says that there has to be something in her profile mentioning her being underage.  She admitted to falsifying her age through IM to me because she wanted to know more about the lifestyle.  I explained to her the dangers of not only communicating with others on collarme but also to anyone she meets online through adult sights.  I asked her if her parents knew about her participation on this site and the ramifications toward them if they did have knowledge of this.  She mentioned her dad is an attorney.  I explained to her that if everything she told me was true, she could be endangering her parents through action taken by the authorities.

I tried to convince her to take her profile off of here and I'm fairly convinced she will not.  I also mentioned to her that if anyone from this site discusses anything of sexual nature to her to let me know.  Although this could all be some kind of warped hoax, it should never be taken lightly.

If a moderator reads this, please advise as to how to inform you as to who this individual is.  The dangers surrounding a minor on this sight are mind boggling.  The legal ramifications concerning this are fairly clear.  Any advice on how to proceed with this up to and including notifying the authorities is welcomed.  I take this very seriously as I think we all should.  Remember, this is a fifteen year old girl based upon what she told me.

Jimblast,  just run.

if this girl contacts you to tell you if anyone discusses anything of a sexual nature with her.. then You're the target of her discussion, which possibly gets you in trouble too.  Also, remember there are bait teams out there hunting for those who would have jumped on a chance to meet up with her. If "she" is a working Online Crimes Investigator, all the time You take up talking with her is keeping her from doing the work of winnowing out the real creeps.  If "she" contacts You again, keep records just incase, but for gawds sake, don't reply.  eeek.

Thanks Mavis, I'll keep that in mind and certainly if it is a team of investigators, I wouldn't want to take up their time in doing thier job.  I suppose I feel compelled to help if this individual is whom she says she is.  But you're right, probably ignoring her is a good idea.

She could be jerking your chain about the age thing.  Either way, Id not speak another word to her, nor would I have gone as far as you did.  I understand you wanting to advise her into a path of safety ,but most likely you wouldnt have succeeded anyway. Worse yet, it could end up with you being the one in trouble.  Ultimately the responsibility of her integrity is on her and possibly with the site.  Its not your job to police anyone, though your intentitions are good.  Lets face it, most teens around that age are screwing around anyway.  And alot have even had their first bdsm experience by then as well.  I am not by any means advocating it.  Im just saying its not that uncommon, not something you can stop and probably not something you should feel too worried about.

Send a message on the other side to moderatorone (from a regular email account it would be moderatorone (at) collarme (dot) com).  If you have a log of your conversation with the alleged minor, attach it.  Make sure you also give them your cm screen name in case they need to speak to you.

The most they can do is delete the profile and maybe block the IP address, both of which are work-aroundable but at least it gives the owners of the site the opportunity to try to meet their legal and moral obligations.

Personally I think you should just choose to ignore her if you are unwilling to help her.

I lied about my age several times online to gain access to information and forums.  I understand people choosing not to take the risks for helping underage folk, and if a moderator discovers the lie, I understand eliminating the person.  But I personally always feel it's better to help rather than to shun.

I disagree LA... there's no reason to encourage dishonesty in the name of education. Regardless of how many times you may have been untruthful about your age previously... that does not make it right, nor does it make it an admirable trait for curious teens, juveniles or adolescents.

I highly agree with MizSuz... forward the correspondence where the juvenile admits to being underage to moderatorone, so a Mod can decide on the behalf of CM.

There is NO PLACE in BDSM for children and juveniles, no matter how curious they are or may be... period!

The only problem with eliminating a profile for an underaged person is that they will probably just pop back on with a new user name.  Offering help is nice, but it then becomes an ethical imperative for the OP to report a person when the minor reports to him that she has told someone else about her age and the Dominant is still pursuing her or using sexual language.

This is a bad situation and I would probably just report the profile to the Mods and back away..........  This obviously doesn't help the underaged person, but it does protect the OP.

Jim,

In the end you can only do what you feel is right.  If the profile is closed another one will just pop up.  I once talked for several months with someone here who was 15.  She asked questions and I answered them for her the best I could.  Anytime she tried to make the conversations directly more sexual between us I would always put a damper on it.  I helped steer her away from a couple of situations and people that would have been bad news.  In the end, she wanted more than I was willing to give and when I wouldn't cross that line she found someone who would.

I don't agree that locking the door to the toy room is the right answer.  By the time they are 15 or 16 they are going to do what it is they wish to do.  Don't take that in any way to mean I think anything should advance beyond just conversation and education but they are going to do whatever it is they wish.  Now stop and think about some of the sharks we know cruise the waters here and tell me again those girls should just be shunted out into the night.

The last time I reported someone underage I merely sent it on to the mods.  Told the the reason's why I suspected they were underage.
The next time I tried to look up the profile it had been deleted.

It was fairly obvious though.  Some kid posted his photo, he was about ten.  Some kids look younger but there was no way this kid was even anywhere near 18.
For someone lying about a year or so it may be harder to be positive.

It is impossible to determine if her words are true. However, she has given you plenty to go on and a fact that no one is mentioning is her father's occupation. Do you sincerely believe he will assume you were doing the right thing on behalf of his daughter? I would heartily advise that you forward the discussions to the site monitor and refrain from speaking to her again.

Continued discussions between someone that has openly declared themselves a minor could land you in more trouble than you'd want to accept. As an individual that once considered becoming an online investigator, I can assure you that if you are speaking to one this situation will not be to your benefit. Make it clear that all discussions have ended and wish her the best. The latter is merely for your security and also to contradict any future allegations that could arise that you've continued correspondence.

I've run across one myself and ... told her straight up ON collarme, that she didn't look old enough to be the age she claimed.  When I asked her some proof  ... voice chat, something, anything to prove what she claimed ... she vanished.  Is there a way we can post the ID's here?  An ongoing list perhaps?  or are We trapped by the kiddies and on Our own?  The children have no place here isn't there anything more We can do?

Lets leave her ignorant and hope she gets knocked up as single moms are always easy targets when they turn 18.

I generally agree with outing the "underage" who are on sites like these, but it is not a moral sentiment; it is a legal and reputation-based one for the site and the community, due to the world in which we live. Ethically, I personally could care less if a young adult is learning about BDSM or even partaking in it. In fact, I encourage it. I know I was a scary boy myself at the age of even ten, and by fifteen I was more than ready and willing to bear teeth.

But report or no report, I would get as far away from contact with this "fifteen year-old" as devils fly from dawn. There are far too many pretenders and sting operations in circulation, and while it would be nice to have a world in which the pursuit of knowledge and experience was respected in young adults, the reality is our society has deemed that eighteen is the magic number when fully cognizant brains and functional sexual organs blossom, and anyone below that age is legally a "child."

I have lied about my age as well, because that was the only way to get access to things that I was unable to "legally" but was more than ready to know about.

I chose never to reveal my actual age, because I had no interest in getting someone in trouble, and if I never gave them reason to doubt at least there was plausable deniablity. I don't think there's anything -wrong- with talking with underage individuals, however it's not a safe thing to do in this climate. I stay far away from anyone who says they're underage, because I don't need the trouble.

Research into how the brain develops is ongoing at the University of Pennsylvania. In one study, a series of magnetic-resonance images on children shows that the brain has a growth spurt at the time of puberty, but the new connections don't solidify until a person is in his mid-20s, when the thinking process becomes fully adult.

The point is, folks that regardless of how "mature" a teen appears, the truth is, they are not fully able to control impulses.  People who find ways to justify sexual content emails to minors in the name of "education" are also not thinking clearly in my opinion.
