Estring -> Tis The Season (9/2/2006 6:48:34 PM)

I really like this time of the year as far as sports go. Pennant races are heating up (go Dodgers!), college football started today (go USC), and pro football is starting next week (Go ? ). And basketball is coming soon too. My slave doesn't like sports, but she does watch them with me. Usually tied up on the floor, but I keep telling her, that is the best seat in the house.[;)]

Couldn't agree more, Estring. I've been glued to the tube a good portion of the day (how about those 'Horns?? [:D]), and look forward to a great football season.

Estring -> RE: Tis The Season (9/2/2006 7:09:36 PM)

Lol, you would mention those 'Horns. It will be interesting to see where Texas and USC end up after so many big defections to the NFL. And I am hoping that Notre Dame falls on it's face this season. Of course, being a USC fan, I wish that every year.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Tis The Season (9/2/2006 7:48:21 PM)

Life is good once again. Football season officially starts next week and I will happily be at Gillette Stadium or in front of the TV every Sunday from then until Feb.
I have been trolling the Football MBs the last few weeks getting perpsectives on the pre season and trades, etc.

I dunno about ND, Estring. Charlie has done a great job his first year there. He's among the best of the best. < Homer loyalty speaking > I am a USC fan too, but I think Weiss is going to make things happen in South Bend.

Georgia Tech had the Irish looking like a pack of high-schoolers in the first half, but Weis switched to the run, and now Notre Dame is leading 14-10 in the fourth.

smilezz -> RE: Tis The Season (9/2/2006 8:13:18 PM)

I absolutely agree!  Notre Dame better get off their asses and start acting like a Team.  They are ahead, but lots of time left.

GO IRISH!

That's a Weiss trademark. He is a flipping genius at half time adjustments. That is one thing we miss in his absence.

University of Iowa built a new stadium this year. Iowa City was total madness starting yesterday. I avoided going into town.

It'll be interesting to see how the Long Horns do this year now that Vince Young went pro signing with the Tennsee Titans. Though the Cowboys didn't get him, I'm still a Young fan. This guy was raised right. When asked by reporters if he'll be doing any starting QB this season, his only reponse was "You'll have to ask coach" and left them all hanging. This type of quality becomes more rare each year with the rise of big EGO Athletes who think they should run the show and name there price.

We all have our fingers crossed down here about his replacement, Colt McCoy. He did well yesterday, running for 1 TD and throwing 3 more, and Texas is loaded at every other spot, but next week will tell a lot, when we play Ohio St.

And yeah, Vince is a good guy, from all reports.

Full marks to the good lady for having the commitment to sit through a gridiron game - I take my hat off to her, there must be times when she's climbing the walls.

Regards

Yeah -- as a matter of fact next week in South Bend when Penn State comes in and crushes NC ole Charlie Weis will  make all the pundits look like idiots for forgetting ND has a lousy defense .

By the way, this prediction is based on an unbiased analysis of the facts, and it is just a coincidence that I am a Penn State fan.

Estring -> RE: Tis The Season (9/3/2006 10:27:45 AM)

What a great start to the college football season. So many good games. How good did USC look? Wow. I think their defense is better than last year's, and the offense seems to have not lost a thing. Go Trojans!

Some bad news here, from the Yahoo news site:

Chargers LB shot by off-duty officer

By BERNIE WILSON, AP Sports Writer 4 minutes ago

Chargers linebacker Steve Foley was shot by an off-duty policeman in front of his suburban home Sunday, team and sheriff's department officials said.

His condition wasn't immediately known.

"We have confirmed that linebacker Steve Foley was shot early this morning," team spokesman Bill Johnston said in a statement. "We'll try to provide more information as it becomes available. Right now all of our thoughts are with Steve."

The shooting occurred after an off-duty policeman reported seeing a suspected drunken driver weaving in and out of traffic on an area highway, said sheriff's Lt. Dennis Brugos.

"My understanding is he was shot three times in front of his house by an off-duty officer and that he's in surgery," Foley's agent, David Levine, told The Associated Press.

Hmmmmm...Who is that pro bowl QB that went to Penn State.. You know the one with the League MVP a couple of years in a row... What's his name again?

Ohh yeah, Peyton Manning !  < weg> [sm=hair.gif]  [;)]

Seriously tho, Happypervert. I grew up right outside Philly and love Penn State and Joe Paterno. At one time there was talk about him coming to NE as a head coach. I believe it was just talk, but I was really hoping that there was some substance to it.
I don't really have loyalty to any one college team. I have quite a few faves for different reasons. Penn State is one, USC as I mentioned, Nebraska State and Michagan Wolverines
