At one time there was talk about him coming to NE as a head coach. I believe it was just talk, but I was really hoping that there was some substance to it.

There was more than just talk to it -- he accepted an offer to be the Patriots' coach in in the early '70s, but then changed his mind the next day.

The story goes that after he accepted the offer he told his wife: "Honey, tonight you're going to bed with a millionaire", then after sleeping on it decided he would be happier keeping his $30k/year job. Boston's loss was Happy Valley's gain.

I get to see the Longhorns two weeks in a row.

I'm going to the Ohio State game with my foster dad and two of his friends, and then get to see them beat the crap out of my school on the 16th. At least we can beat those Horns up at baseball. [;)]

Big Ben had appendectomy surgery, but they think he may only miss one game.  He's a fast recoverer, so hopefully he'll be back soon.

Hi Katy [;)]. Oh yes, I imagine Big Ben will be back quickly. I tell you, I'm amazed at how fast Carson Palmer has come back; I hope both guys stay healthy a long time, it would make for a hell of a matchup.

KatyLied -> RE: Tis The Season (9/5/2006 4:48:28 PM)

Palmer's gonna kick some ass this season.  (I hope it's not the Steelers).

"Cradled by cornfields and long, quiet streets, Randy Gonigam's furniture store on U.S. Highway 34 in Kendall County is not a place folks usually go to gamble.

But 206 families who placed bets at World Furniture Mall over Labor Day weekend won payoffs after the Bears pounded the Green Bay Packers 26-0 in their season opener Sunday.

Gonigam had promised to refund the money spent in his Plano store that weekend—up to $10,000 a customer—if the Bears shut out Green Bay."

Did you see Jerry Porter cheering as his team-mate Aaron Brooks was sacked for a 7th time? I think his time is short with the Silver and Black lol.

Estring -> RE: Tis The Season (9/12/2006 4:57:33 PM)

I didn't see it, but I heard about it. I do feel bad for Art Shell. He is a good guy, but he has a horrible team.

Level -> RE: Tis The Season (9/12/2006 5:10:19 PM)

I agree, Estring, Shell was a fantastic player, and he seems to be a heck of a guy, and a decent coach. I think about those Raider teams in the 70s and 80s, and it has to drive Al Davis mad that he can't put together another powerhouse. I honestly think if Madden would come back, and Davis would let  him have a lot of say so in building the team, they could be huge.

Estring -> RE: Tis The Season (9/12/2006 5:14:06 PM)

I think Al Davis is a major reason why The Raiders cannot get back to their glory days. Madden would help, but he won't go near this hot potato. Lol.
