LTRsubNW -> Sorry, occasionally I do find myself being a bit of a buzz kill but.... (8/20/2006 3:06:50 PM)

This friend of mine (a bit of a holy roller) does occasionally try to expound on his facts.  Today was "why homesexuals are sinners", live in sin , etc.

I explained to him that not only are homosexuals genetically predisposed (as are heterosexuals) to their choices but that sin is in eye of the beholder (as the Bible so states).

He spent a great deal of effort explaining to me Josana 3:47 and Joshua something or other....whereupon I reminded him that the Catholic church deemed the number of books in the Bible to be succinct and complete, not God...(if indeed the reverse were the case, why was the Catholic church the final dictum...and not God as to the other "remnant" books that are now well available to anyone?)

And he hemmed and hawed...so...my question is...

How do you deal with someone who has their dictum encrypted, can't let go of their edicts as they've been informed, you've already covered all the facts of science....

How do you deal with someone like this...with love?

Ask Him is He is a follower of Christ and if He is saved through Jesus.  If He says yes, then tell Him that homosexuality was not outlawed in the New Testement and was never deemed a sin by Jesus and that Jesus embraced homosexuals.  It's all there if people read, instead of just listen to others.

The Bible is simply a guide, and that the truth is in ones heart and soul.
And the truth is Love.

Peace and Rapture

The best way seems to be just not going there.  My dearest friend on the planet has never overcome his Fundamentalist programming of the early years.  We simply don't talk about religion and when it worms its way into the conversation, we quickly agree to disagree and respect each others right to opinions that are complete crap. (Either way you slice it.)

Take them to a bluff overlooking the ocean, as the sun is setting on a clear day.  Ask him whether God made this sunset.  He will say yes.  Ask him why.  As he ponders, kick him hard, over the edge...with love.

benji

Then at some point ("when good people...") you need weed killer.

Why not opt to change opinion?

They has no more right to convince you otherwise than you have any right to convince them otherwise.

I agree with avoiding the subject in conversation.

Advice taken, I'll respond in accord...none...avoidance (not my preference).

I asked...you gave.

Done.

(Thank you).

So he thinks that fags are sinners eh?

Big deal, he has his own personal belief and I don't see you changing it. However, to keep it from being an over heated debate, reply to him with a couple of these statements.

1. So you don't think homosexuality is right. Well, they not complaining about christianity being wrong. Can you give them the same respect?

2. So you don't want to be gay. That's fine, you don't have to be. No one is trying to make you gay so why would you try to make anyone straight?

3. Christians where once persicuted for there beliefs and they did not like it. Now, as a Christian and knowing the Golden Rule, why would you wish to persicute others for having a different belief system?

4. So there are people out there who are homosexual. What's the big deal? What are they doing to you? Why should you care so much as to go out of your way to make there lives a living hell? It's not doing anyone any good. If God really wants something done about it, he has this thing called lightening to hit people with. Rather than trying to play God, just let go and let God handle it.

Listen to such people with kindness, treat them gently, if some simple discussion seems to start becomming overbearing or threatening, agree to disagree. maintain a simple dignity and good manners. If all else fails kill them with kindness. Once they become fanatical they have suffered a mental abhoration which does not allow them to understand that not everyone needs agree with them so effectively you arer dealing with a sick puppy and at this point, bind them firmly, apply a ball gag, slap sufficient postage stamps on their forhead and post them to benji for his amusement..

If all else fails kill them, you are dealing with a sick puppy .

IB,

You seem a bit confused.  Sick horses get shot.  Sick puppies just get flogged.

Yours,

benji

Thank you O Puppy Meister. Prophet of Puppies.. I am but a simple grizzley (part snow bear too) and knew this not.....

So for all religious nut cases (ermm fanatics), we should strip them nakid and flog them ..yes?  If so could we not as part of the flogging hand weights to nipple clamps attached to the nipples of the females being flogged and indulge in breast torture or CBT on the males too?? may as well let the masses enjoy something too y'know.

LTRsubNW -> RE: Sorry, occasionally I do find myself being a bit of a buzz kill but.... (8/20/2006 3:52:04 PM)

The consensus seems to be either...avoidance...or..."send them to Benji".

I'm flexible on this.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Sorry, occasionally I do find myself being a bit of a buzz kill but.... (8/20/2006 4:01:13 PM)

Sending them to me IS a form of avoidance!  Proactive avoidance, as they call it 'round here.

Yours,

benji

Edited to add:  Another term for proactive avoidance is kidnap & murder, but I digress....

You don't see where you already answered your question?  You can't change their opinion, only they can.  Better to be loud and proud with your own truth and live your example by doing what they don't - leaving them to believe as they see fit.  Trying to change them makes you just like them.

Yeah, I do (as usual...you're right)

SirKenin -> RE: Sorry, occasionally I do find myself being a bit of a buzz kill but.... (8/20/2006 6:02:18 PM)

Being a homosexual is not condemned in the Bible.  Acting on it is.  See 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and 1 Timothy 1:9-11.  Romans 1:18-32 explains that homosexuality was brought about as a result of sin.

The Roman Catholic church has nothing to do with it.  They are not the final authority, as much as they would like to think so.

Estring -> RE: Sorry, occasionally I do find myself being a bit of a buzz kill but.... (8/20/2006 7:04:42 PM)

Agree to disagree
