If the only way you can forward a good and important cause is to be the exemplification of perfection in that area, we are all doomed. No one is perfect. To question the legitimacy of a person having a conviction by hunting out and nit picking the one area where they have a failure and ignoring the vast mass of the good he has done and is doing is nothing short of idiocy.

Do not look for perfection, even in role models. Just look for a willingness to find and salvage something good. Not many of us work to find and salvage good anymore.

No, and I will only say that the last paragraph fits in all sorts of places, like the middle east. Lots of finger-pointing and condemning those with differing viewpoints to hell. "War for oil, Bush the anti-christ, the new Hitler, American and Israeli savagery"..... no desire to see any of the good or the attempted good. Not neccesarily aiming this at you, puella. Just setting out the shoes for those that fit into them, left or right.

I personally see global warming as a problem, and I think Gore is honest in his attempt to find solutions for it, but yeah, I do think it's hypocritical to own three huge houses while talking about how we need to do more to conserve our environment.

The thing is, some people will view him as a hypocrite until they see him riding down the road in a horse and carriage. I think it would be equally silly to expect George Bush to stand up for everything he supports. Our kids should go to war, where are his kids? He cuts funding to protect our ability to ensure safer food, water and air... Bush should cut his supply of each?

Each person is 'fighting' for what they believe in collectively and, I suppose some hypocrisy could exist to a degree on both sides.... I am sure someone could find hypocrisy in every single one of us... it just depends on who is looking for it.

Hi Lorelei .

I agree, we're all hypocrites at one time or another. I didn't start the thread to "sink" AlGore's message, but I do like looking at all sides.

If it was a requirement to be closer to perfection than whatever hypocritical politician one wished to criticize, this forum would be very short on posts.

As far as who has done more than Gore, do you mean having only 2 mansions on the hill, instead of his 3? Because I've got that beat by a long shot, I have zero.

Do you mean driving an economy car instead of limos and SUVs? Got him beat there too. Bicycling or walking for transportation instead of for photo ops? Recycling something other than Dom Perignon bottles?

Get real people, this isn't Gandhi we are talking about.

Where in the world did anyone ever get the idea that any of the major candidates were anything other than deceptive opportunists?
