EvilGeoff -> Earned Leather (7/21/2006 10:59:15 PM)

Thursday night, I was presented with my first "earned" leather - a belt, personalized with my name and group. The certificate that was presented to me along with the belt reads:

Earned Leather
July 20, 2006

Let it be known that in the BDSM Leather Protocol tradition, We present Geoff with this black leather belt for service to the community. It is inscribed with your name and "T3WD" as this is your home BDSM group.

Leather is presented and has been quite well earned. Thank you for all you do for us all.

It was signed by everyone at the meeting.

I was choked up, left speechless. It's one of the few times in my life I've been that stunned and surprised and proud. Damn near cried right there. I never expected to be presented with any leathers, I've never been part of a leather family that carried on that tradition. To have been given such by my group... It means the world to me.

I was wondering if any others here (besides my friend Archer, I know he has earned leathers) have "earned" any of their leather.  If so, how/from who?  And when it happened, were you also overwhelmed by feeling?

YIK,
- Geoff

Well Evil Geoff, congratulations!! I am sure you earned it and it was well deserved.
Because I know I've personally observed that you give good advice around these parts to newbies and answer questions from complete strangers with intelligent compassion also. You just never know how many people you might be helping, do you? Congratulations again.

No, I'm not in the leather community so it's not part of my values or culture except through vague relations to people I know who are in the leather scene.

I have however taken advantage of my connection to them and try and learn the customs and not trounce all over them and try and be a respectful visitor when I'm in their company- while they tolerate my sweet ignorance.

I also enjoy knowing the background of the leather culture and how it led to the development of the broader kink scene of today.

Congrats on the leather.

Congrats, it is always great to be honoured by those you respect.  i know very little about the leather community, however i do LOVE leather.

Congratulations Geoff, as a former member of T3WD, i wish i could have been there in person for the presentation. You have been and continue to be an extreme valuable and inspirational member of the Leather Community. You greatly deserve the honor.

Hey Geoff!  That is awesome!!!  I'm so happy for you!  I *know* how hard you have worked for T3 and the greater community in the Carolinas, and it is clear that you do it for the love of the people and for Leather.  Who says there can't be straight Leather Men!

Congratulations, Friend!

EXCELENT!!!

Glad to see this tradition being dusted off a bit more often for some, and expanded into parts of the community that have not participated in this tradition.

I can tell you for sure that your response to the presentation is perfectly normal shock, humility, disbelief, followed by a profound sense of now needing to live up to the leathers you earned.

Congradulations of the earned leather, certainly well deserved for the service you have given to T3WD over the years.

I earned a pair of boots, which had been earned by the person who gave them to me.  I've earned other, non-leather, items and positions as well.

I'm in leather, technically, but I'm one of those nasty young'uns who say that if you hold your own tradition, that's cool...but it's not a measuring stick for anyone who *doesn't*.  You're not saying it is, but so many do...

Each time I've earned anything in my leather relationship(s), it's been a surprise - not something I've knowingly worked toward.  It makes them all the sweeter.

Boots, serving gloves, my collar, my position as "leather daughter" as opposed to the "leather child" I had been previously,  several hankies, and other, more personal (and less explain-able) things have been earned along my path.

Congrats!!!!

That is a wonderful testament to you and to your community.

You and they are lucky to have this type of community around.

Congratulations Sir. Well deserved.

EvilGeoff -> RE: Earned Leather (7/23/2006 5:56:27 PM)

Thank you, all of you.  The congrats and well wishes mean a lot to me!

*smiles and shrugs*  But has anyone else (besides Archer and Imp) come up in a leather family or tradition where they earned their leathers?

YIK,
- Geoff

One of the downsides of being an exclusive group is that you have a smaller pool to deal with- specially since this is an online forum.  Offline you might have a higher percentage.

At least I know the terminology and what things like "flagging" mean.  Like all cultures over time- some traditions will be lost, some will be changed and new ones will take over.  It's hard to see something you value so highly being so ignored and forgotten by people who claim to share the same values as you do- but again, that's part of the downside of being an exclusive group.

Cloudz -> RE: Earned Leather (7/23/2006 7:10:27 PM)

Congrats, and wear it in good health!

yaaaaaaaaaaay what an awesome accomplishment.....[image]http://www.collarme.com/htmlarea/smileys/0359.gif[/image]

no earned leather stories here, but i was welcomed in to the Butchmans family with a faceted ruby which was totally unexpected, it humbled me to my core, and  is among my most highly prized possessions.

Hi Geoff, Congradulations on that honor!
I'm a member of your group although not active as I live in M.B. and it's a bit of a drive to get to some of the events from here.
I tried MBK but found it too cliquey too much "politics."
I attended that lecture in Jan in Colombia  (N.A.S.F.)and the Munch afterward and met some of the other members, nice people all!
Everyone, Geoff founded a great group!

TheShadows -> RE: Earned Leather (7/24/2006 12:43:17 AM)

Geoff,

Congrats on the earned leather!  From reading your ever-wise advice on these boards, I have seen that your earned leathers are truely an outward display of what has always been in your heart.  As a relatively younger member of...this thing we collectively do and believe in, it heartens me to see that this tradition that I've heard about, and aspire to be a part of one day, is still alive and well.  Again, congrats!

RavenMuse -> RE: Earned Leather (7/24/2006 3:13:48 AM)

Congrats Geoff,

Not my 'tradition' or way of doing things but I do understand the significance, achievement and respect afforded you by your peers in Leather. Wear them with pride and honour.

popeye1250 -> RE: Earned Leather (7/26/2006 11:37:31 AM)

Geoff, I think I've read somewhere of a Pony Training "ranch" in S.C./N.C.
Do you know of any and if so could you give us a rundown of the activities there?
Thanks
(Member T3WD)
