A Magpul magazine for the AR15 holds 30 rounds, not 20. A person bent on causing as much damage as possible would have multiple magazines, not a single magazine they'd have to stop and reload.

This video just shows how complicated and difficult it is to reload! And even with 30 rounds per magazine. That's still 10 magazines! It has to be more than 300 bullets too, because after he walked out of the place, he also had bullets left to shoot out with the police! Some reported he had as much as 700 bullets or something. That's alot of magazines!

First it was 300 rounds now it's 700 rounds. First it was a single-man operation and now he had help. I'll post a YouTube video that rambles on and eventually blames brain-leeching aliens from Pluto.

Do the math: for the AR15, a 55 grain bullet + ~25 grains of powder (H335!) + ~95 grains per case = 175 grains per cartridge. For the Glock 17, a 124 grain bullet + ~4 grains of powder (Titegroup!) + ~60 grains per case = roughly 188 grains per cartridge. The primer weights for both the .223/5.56 and the 9mm are negligible. There are 7000 grains in a pound. Each magazine for the AR should be about 5oz, probably the same weight for the G17.

Have you personally encountered a brain-leeching alien from Pluto? Fuckers are dangerous, let me tell you. You said it was aliens, and now you are recanting?

BTW I think a 30 round .223/5.56mm (dont know what he was shooting) is closer to a pound than it is 5 oz. (the metal case weighs a bit itself, the brass and so on), but still negligible in terms of this discussion.

But yeah, if you can't take tinfoilers on youtube as your primary source, you gotta ask yourself what is this world coming to?

If the rifle is like an AR, which I would have to presume it is, it is absolutely not difficult or time consuming to reload. It takes seconds, even in the dark. In a right handed stance, you take your right hand off the pistol grip, push the button on the right side (magazine release) which is located such that you can have your hand wrapped around the empty magazine to pull it out. You pull it out, if you're in a combat situation as the shooter was, you throw it on the floor. In the same motion, you reach up to your vest, where the magazines are already oriented for insertion, slide one out, smack the back of it on something, I use my leg, to push the rounds to the rear, then shove it in the magazine well and give it a little spank on the bottom to make sure it's locked. Push the button on the left (slide lock), if you didn't empty the previous mag, you don't even have to do that. Tap rack bang, you're ready to rock. With just a little practice, it takes less time than it did to read that. I find firing left handed even easier.

Are the big drum magazines available for an AR-15 in .223, or do they just do those for not-assault rifles chambered for proper non-harmless hunting size bullets?

mrevibo -> RE: CBS NEWS: There were multiple shooters in Orlando (6/15/2016 7:52:12 AM)

You can get things like that for ARs and AKs, hellz, I've seen one for some pistol or other. They tend not to be particularly reliable and they're unwieldy. The armed forces stay with 30s for a reason, and that's pretty much all I have.

Thanks.

It gets worse. I've just read that 400 people somehow got into the club disguised as turban-shaped grassy knolls!

You guys laugh now! They are still investigating. I am betting the wife is the woman he was talking to on the phone who had a bomb vest strapped to her.
I bet his wife is one of his accomplice. The dude himself told the cops he had accomplices. Just that the cops found no evidence of other people. But would they? IF those accomplice kinda just stayed low?

Unless the divorce was because she refused to that, of course.

Do you propose to carry a police officer with you wherever you go? Don't even talk to me about 30 round magazines being heavy. The sad thing is that in the world we have to work with, a great many of us are far better trained and more competent with our firearms than a majority of police officers. You'll read stories about officer Duncan McDoughnuts firing his gun only once a year at qualification, and taking three tries to get 70% of 50 rounds on paper. If they were interested, they could get the same training the rest of us do. Municipalities are loathe to spend the kind of money it would cost to have enough officers and train them sufficiently to be effective in all situations, and a great many of them are used as revenue enhancement agents, writing speeding tickets.

You say yourself where (part of) the problem is. I just wonder why you vote for those imbecile politicians who decide about these things ... ?

Another point, discussed in several threads before, is a training of 3 weeks or 3 months duration for becoming a police officer, in comparison to several years in other countries.

Train them as professionals, and you get professionals.

Of course this costs money. If you don't want to pay for that you ll pay in another way.

mrevibo -> RE: CBS NEWS: There were multiple shooters in Orlando (6/15/2016 11:41:09 AM)

I prefer to pay by doing it myself, that way it's not cocked up by various politicians that sway in the wind and can't seem to establish a beneficial policy that survives past the next election cycle. This way I know where my money is going, and that it's not going to be diverted to some silly pandering via handouts. I vote for the politicians that seem the least like that, but there are the lumpen proletariat voting for free stuff. We can dream, but we have to work with what we have.

truckinslave -> RE: CBS NEWS: There were multiple shooters in Orlando (6/15/2016 11:43:20 AM)

Greta, any extensive personal experience with the M16 and/or its clones/variants ended in 1974. I have test-fired a couple since, maybe zeroed in a scope or two on such semi-autos; but that's about it.
Never was much of a Glock fan either; I've shot 'em of course, including a couple of "worked" specimens. But I'm an old war-horse and remained true to the 1911A1 (the "Colt 45" or "Army 45").
Never competed in three-gun except for Cowboy. Haven't shot a pistol match since 1996 (although that was a damned good year for me and the trophy wall).

All that having been said: I could have made one two-hour trip to the range to familiarize myself with the rifle this gomer used and easily done what he did.

Walk in, back up against a wall, clear out the immediate space around me with the Glock, holster it, and go to work with the rifle. Depend on the handgun if I got charged during the two seconds it takes to change rifle magazines.

It's easy work for anyone cowardly and depraved enough to do it.

Unless you have military service, that's a fucking fantasy. Police Officers are not the inept fucking cannon fodder you see in action movies.

Yeah because all the police are just like what you see in the movies aren't they. You're not really all that familiar with reality are you.

Municipalities are making a fucking fortune through the legalised theft operation known as civil forfeiture and they're spending their money on Bearcats and other military arms and vehicles. In fact the militarisation of civil police forces is an ongoing concern. The idea that police forces are populated by inept gumshoes is utterly false.

No, that guy was just an actor. He mostly plays broadway.
