http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/president-obama-ill-veto-any-budget-if-it-limits-spending/article/2571507

Obama is going to shut down the govt if Congress doesn't approve increased spending in 2016. I wonder where he is going to come up with the funds to pay for it?

You increase taxes on business and you increase the cost of products
You increase income tax and there is a disencentive to paying it. People get tired of paying taxes.

Tax Freedom Day 2015 is on April 24, one day later than last year. To read the full report, click here.

Doesn't take into account the debt.

Republicans will probably go along with Obama. But is it the right thing to do?

JVoV -> RE: FY 2016 Budget (9/6/2015 9:34:15 PM)

I believe there's an entire process that occurs before a President vetos a bill. Like first there has to be a bill.

Lucylastic -> RE: FY 2016 Budget (9/6/2015 9:41:39 PM)

They have already threatened to shut down over planned parenthood.

Who shut it down last time...oh and threatened to do it over the iran deal.

Wasnt obama.....

KenDckey -> RE: FY 2016 Budget (9/7/2015 8:22:57 AM)

Lucy Darlin

Do you think that Obama should be giving basically unlimited funds to use as he see fits? I don't think so. The legislature sets the budget, not Obama. If he veto's it, a definate sign of disapproval, then they must meet to decide which department gets what. The Legislature doesn't shut down government. Only the President can, unless of course the Legislature doesn't come up with a budget to give to the President.

The second problem is how to we pay for all these programs. You tax business and they raise the price of the goods and services. you tax those with money and they can't (and probably won't) invest more which would be good for the economy). You tax the poor, and they can't purchase as many goods and services.

That means that entitlement programs costs increase, increasing the government debt. It is a vicious circle. I personally think entitlement programs are going to bring our country down because no one wants to address them (all sides). The only entitlement program that seems to be constantly attacked is Social Security and Medicare (which we have to pay into). Seems we pay into unemployment insurance as well. The law now requires us to pay into health care (unless the government thinks we don't need to and they pay which is extremely costly). At what point are we going to address the issues and how we are going to sustain the costs?

y'all wont address the issue until y'all hit the wall.. until then you will continue to sustain the costs by either:
(a) sticking yer head further & further in the sand,.. or..
(b) kicking it down the line..

The GOP House has passed several budget bills since taking over in 2010. The Democrats went years without even passing one. President Obama is threatening to veto any bill that has spending cuts. That's getting ahead the process himself, isn't it?

But, again, if Congress sends a bill to the President that has spending cuts in it, and the President vetoes it, blame will still fall on the GOP, because... well, because that's the way the media will spin it.

None of those things mean fuckall to this discussion, Lucy.

The last time government was shut down, there were bills passed by the House that the Senate didn't pass. The shut down didn't have to happen. Yes, some bills were passed in the "10th" and "11th" hours, but they were passed. Harry Reid sat on them. Yes, the GOP waited and was the party that threatened to shut it down, but, does that change anything here and now?

This admission that there is no competition and that they are all in colusion seems odd. If there truely was competition then at least one competitor would sieze the tax as an opportunity to gain market share by not passing it on to the customer.

JVoV -> RE: FY 2016 Budget (9/7/2015 12:35:18 PM)

Fixing anything isn't on the GOP's agenda this year, or next most likely. Remember, they only have two years to deny Obama any lasting legacy.

So we'll see a bill to repeal the ACA. We'll see a vote to block the Iran deal. We'll see Republicans make every effort to undermine the President before the upcoming climate summit.

Did we ever get the highway bill that expired in July? Maybe that clerk in Kentucky needs cellmates.

What might the consequences of that be? Might that not be a signal to terehan that we are willing to sell them the shit they need to make a couple of bombs since we are no longer interested in limiting their nuclear program?

Wouldn't be a bad idea to vote it down.

It's a win/win for both sides of congress because then Obama will have to go on the offensive and with blanks in his gun. (he got less than 1/2 of the stated positions in the agreement the 'coalition' began with)

Second, the imams will be pissed without a bomb. Better that rather then when they do have a bomb. I want a new agreement. One with some teeth in it.

Oh and as for the budget, seems we can have an increase for defense of course but not for anything else. Where will that money come from ?

They could hire the ferguson police department. They were able to suck 2 million dollars a year out of less than 20,000 people.

Obama is going to shut down the govt if Congress doesn't approve increased spending in 2016. I wonder where he is going to come up with the funds to pay for it?

He would do it if:

"And if they don't, they'll shut down the government for the second time in two years," said Obama. "If Congress wants to support working Americans and strengthen our middle class, they can pass a budget that invests in, not makes cuts to, the middle class. If they pass a budget with shortsighted sequester cuts that harm our military and our economy, I'll veto it. If they make smart investments in our military readiness, our infrastructure, our schools, public health, and research, I'll sign that budget."

See that bold part? The President wants a good economy, Republicans do not. Maybe you should ask the Republicans why they would rather sacrifice the whole economy for the petty politics?

Oh forgot, your one of those people that can not hold your own political officials to any level of real accountability and responsibility with power.

You increase taxes on the 1%, that bypasses the businesses all together. That you think the President is as dumb or more so than you really is comical. He knows not to increase taxes on the poor or the middle class. And there is no love lost on the 1% for most Americans. If you had the choice between raising your taxes or the 1%, which would you choose?

You dont want to pay income taxes? I got a great two step process so you'll NEVER have to pay income taxes ever again (for the United States of America at least):

1 ) Renounce your US Citizenship.
2 ) Get the Fuck Out of My Country!

We all pay taxes regardless of WHOM is in public office. I paid taxes when former President George W. Bush was in office. Did it when former President Clinton was in office. I did it while President Obama was in office. I voted in all the general and midterm elections in that time for better or worst.

That would the debt your guy, George W. Bush ran up during his administration. It would take a while to fully explain all the tiny tidbits of data that created that enormous debt that President Obama 'inherited'. He also 'inherited' a bad economy created by bad decision making on the White House's part (not to mention the GOP in Congress that removed regulations like idiots). Yes, it would take time to explain all the fine bits indeed.

Given that you have put the same about of study into Mr. Obama's budget as you have the Iran Treaty.....

....I would gather you have no clue what your babbling about! Rather than attack the President, how about READING his budget?

I would take the President's numbers over the GOP in some cases. The President seems to have good economic advisers. You need proof, I give US History: 2008 to Present. Through a number of events, he has reduced the large deficit to a more manageable number. The US Debt has not gone up as fast as under Mr. Obama's predecessor. The economy was looking like a depression in 2008. Now, we enjoy the lowest unemployment in a long time, the markets are up (the Dow by over twice its value in 2008). Leading and trailing indicators have been running steadily upward for months now.

When you look at things objectively, the President has been right more often than the GOP. But before bashing the President, try studying his budget until you understand it! The GOP has been at fault several times for coming close to a shutdown (including a partial shutdown in 2013). If the GOP presents a bill the President will veto; its not the President's fault; its Congress's. That is why they hold meetings. Many, many, many meetings on the subject. To compromise here and there to arrive at the final figure.

The more ignorant and dickhead-ish the GOP behaves, the more likely the President will veto the bill and force them to explain themselves to the American people. The budget is Congress's responsibility (as per the US Constitution).

There is no competition? Where the hell have you been for the last many years!!?!?!??!?

In a coma?

The GOP and the Democrats have been 'locking horns' every since year since President G. W. Bush came to office! Each year it became more combative and violent (from a political perspective, not literal). In recent years, the GOP has screwed up on the budgets and got rightly blamed for their fuck ups!

Why not state the FULL QUOTE? Because the full quote is terribly inconvenient to your lame argument:

It is my country. He was complaining about not paying income taxes. So I gave him a very simple way of legally never doing it. He would still have to pay any taxes that are currently due however!
