RottenJohnny -> Two US soldiers in Europe stop gunman. (8/21/2015 6:38:49 PM)

Another blurb from my homepage...

As an American who gets tired of hearing Europeans bash the US I won't deny this lifted my spirits a little. I'm hoping for a full and speedy recovery for those injured.

The mass violence was prevented, so Mr. Obama's quote is still true. Stopped by members of "A well regulated militia..."

Joe I suggest you don't tell a marine that he is in the militia. At least not to his face.

Do you think that shooting one person and stabbing one person may fall a little short of "mass violence"?

It doesn't appear that the perpetrator was planning to stop there. They are now reporting that he was heavily armed.

quote:

The train stopped at the Arras station in northern France, where counter-terrorist police detained the gunman, who was armed with an assault rifle, a pistol, and knives.

http://freebeacon.com/national-security/u-s-marines-take-down-terrorist-gunman-on-french-train/

They're also now saying that the US servicemen were from the Air Force and National Guard instead of Marines. Regardless, well done, boys!

Can't speak for other Europeans, but my personal point of view is that the United States does and has done a lot of things very well.

You do have people who think violence is the answer to problems, we all do, problem being you have 350 million people so 10% of that or whatever it is makes for a lot of people; more people than 10% of most countries.

I think you have a siege mentality at times, and I think that is deliberately fostered for obvious reasons.

And, ultimately, there's a sense of woe-to-me among some of you, in other words self-pity.

You're not that special, mate, that people 'bash you' because you're United States.

I don't know anyone who 'bashes you', perhaps questions the more questionable aspects of United States foreign policy; but, who knows, perhaps in a constructive manner as opposed to being critical for the sake of it.

On the whole, pretty good, but not beyond criticism as none of us are.

A marine would be a militia on a boat. When one breaks things down to 'The Colonial Days' of America, that is how they would have been defined. Context matters here.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the men and women in the US Marine Corps. Not just hoping a portion of my taxes go to them. Waving flags on the 4th of July celebrations, humming their tune, or some absolutely good photos from one military photographer on deviantart. No, I've actually done stuff that most Americans dont do: give a fuck about their well being. Sending letters to both my rep and senators to make real improvements to he VA system. We have marines that are homeless in America; and I've fought the GOP/TP in their efforts to cut money from the federal budget that would help those people.

An there are people on this very forum, KenDckey, that will take what I state out of context, in order to attack me. I thank you for bringing up your concern. It allows me to state things more clearly.

France train gunman identified as known Islamist militant

(Doesnt have anything to do with religion though, just ask Barack Obama).

PeonForHer -> RE: Two US soldiers in Europe stop gunman. (8/22/2015 12:55:52 PM)

No, it was about some lunatic who worked it out, on the basis of a shitload of propaganda and what he thought was 'obvious' and 'common sense', that an entire demographic - viz, the French people - were the "enemy", without thinking beyond the propaganda about it.

If only everybody were like you, Sanity, that kind of lunacy would never happen. Someone like you would be *very* careful about working out who "the enemy" was, wouldn't you?

Turns out there were three of them ..."A college student, an airman and a soldier walk into a bar/highspeed train and asks 'who wants virgins'?"

NO NO NO Marines, and army are full time professional soldiers.
Militia, are not professional soldiers by any standard.
And the militia you are referring to is, by law, every man over the age
of 18.

You are mistaken.
What used to be the militia is now the national guard and the naval militia, neither of which are marines.

Only one of them was in the militia. The other two were Air Force and a college student.

ps: I am still interested in reading your critique of Mr. Musk's technical issues.

Many would think it careless in the extreme to refer to a Marine as a "soldier"

quote:

Militia, are not professional soldiers by any standard.

They are called the National Guard and the naval militia.

I believe 45 is the upper cutoff age.

An Islamic fundamentalist attacking out of a sense of Jihad isn't really on par with the mass violence that quote is referring to.

Though the quote is still wrong: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dendermonde_nursery_attack

In constitutional terms, "the militia" refers to a concept of a universally armed people. Congress organized the National Guard under its power to raise and support armies.

Times have changed…when Islamic terrorism first raised its ugly head people were shocked into inaction. They could not believe, in a civilized world, that fanatics would take their lives and the lives of their children.

Now we know the depth of their uncivilized barbarism and understand if you don’t fight back they will kill you in the name of their bastard God.

These men were hero’s…but not unusual anymore… you and I in the same circumstances would have reacted in the same manner to save ourselves and our families.

(Derp)

As if your Islamists friends arent (coincidentally, mind you) committing or attempting to commit similar mass atrocities over most of the planet
