Here's a quote:
“In the Federal prison camps, incarcerated Rebels joined the Union military, became civilians who agreed to stay north of the Ohio River, or sometimes preferred even the worst Northern prison camp to returning to the degradation of the Southern armies.”

Excerpt From: Robert Scott Davis. “Andersonville Civil War Prison.”

Where exactly does the excerpt come from? When making a direct quote from a book, its customary to give the page number. Or are you just cherry picking stuff out of context here?

Being in the Southern Armies was not as good as the Northern ones. They had shortages supplies on just about everything except Federal troops. But not just supplies but trained individuals in a variety of areas. Prisons during war provides a snapshot on how well a side is fairing in a conflict. Andersonville,GA, was just that; a fair indication of the South.

It wasn't just Andersonville prison. It was the whole of the dieing south that was suffering. You want to make a moral issue out of a terrible thing without understanding the history.

Who started that war in the first place? Wasn't the North....

Who wanted slaves to help keep their profit margins up against 'foreign markets'? Wasn't the North....

Who used propaganda, lies, and half truths to spread a vewpoint that the President was something besides what he was? Wasn't the North....

Understanding of history? I understand it better than you. I see the parallels with 'The South' to modern conservative/libertarian political bullshit. A population in which the upper tier is small and well educated; controlling the 'Low Information Voter' in numerous ways to push a concept and idea that the current President is something else besides what he is (a US President, duly elected by over fifty million Americans in two elections).

Right now we watch as right wingers support a criminal (Clive Bundy) against the law of the land. And a year later, some miners in Southwest Oregon. One of these days, those folks will cross a line (much like the South), and be put down by the US Military (must like the Federal Armies). This is the 'simple' version of things; it gets much more complex and complicated. But I dont think your mature enough to handle that sort of discussion yet.....

Do you even have an original thought of your own about anything in history?

A) yes!!! Everytime you show irritation I enjoy myself.
B) lol! From someone who only bloviates and never provides links.
C) what you see is the rat mazes you've created in your mind that you worship, but nobody else does.

I could be wrong but from what I am reading, it seems to me you do not know the difference between a concentration camp and a pow camp.

Whew! It's great to live in a place where people don't get shot and killed often, isn't it?

I guess that you didn't notice that one of the reason the government gave that we should not worry about Jade16 was that the army is made up of American citizens and would never take action against American civilians.

Bama, we have Joe bloviating about Andersonville in this thread. I quoted to him from a book I have in my library that he hasn't read. Actually, that author notes there hasn't been much written about Andersonville so it's obvious the bloviating doesn't come from a source. Then after all of that no source bloviating he asks if I've ever had an original thought. Clearly my feelings are hurt and I appreciate you sticking up for me. But...but...I just want to forget it all and not think about that unnamed bloviating person.

(It's just giving him attention which he so much craves.)

Of course all his thoughts on history are original, no one else would accept them.
He forgot, for example that the north had a pow camp in Chicago that was just as bad as Andersonville.
He forgot , for another example, that the slave trade was financed by northern banks.
He forgot, that when the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect that not only did volunteers dry up but that Meade had to march from Gettysburg to NYC to stop the Irish lynching of blacks.
In his defense (?) that is most likely how they teach the Civil War in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts .

Oh,,and let's not forget that the emancipation proclamation only freed slaves in states that rebelled against the union. Wasnt it still legal in three states? I'd have to look that up. Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland and Delaware.

You left out West Virginia and those portions of southern states under Union control like north Tenn and the area around NO

What about Jade15? And the latter is certainly not the case, we have done it before and will do it again.

Well it sucks to be a N. Korean communist. Many Chinese communists are getting rich with their new state capitalism. They are able to travel and spend (enjoy) much of their recently 'found' wealth too.
