Gee. Feasties on a roll. This is good too when she talks about."...... idiots out there doin shit to people that causes them harm and naming it dominance, or idiots suckin up every kind of abuse that causes them harm and namin it submission."

We need a name for them too Feasite. I look to you for guidance. lol

Twice Happy has the answer. Prospects. Perfect. Its completely devoid of emotion and gives people a chance respectfully. If we keep our big mouths shut that is. If we add the term poor or good in front of the word, well then, we screw the whole thing up.

Conflating the term 'wannabe' with the notion of a newbie or novice, and then issuing the pronouncement that we can never deride some utter phoney because 'newbies are somebodies too' is touchy-feely relativism at its worst.

The reason we have derogatory terms is to communicate useful ideas...and it is useful to know that there are people out there who can cause great harm because they refuse to admit that they don't know what they are doing.

G'morning all:

To the OP; I believe there's some misconception behind the term itself. IE: substituting "newbie" for "wannabe". Everyone had to begin somewhere, some when. Hence "newbie".

Now, when a particular individual gets rejected in answer to their interaction with another person, they lash out at the other party and label them a "wannabe" in retaliation for it. Which is just wrong and has been addressed ad infinitum on other threads.

"Wannabe" is basically a derogatory term. According to Webster's - 1 : a person who wants or aspires to be someone or something else or who tries to look or act like someone else. Wraps into that whole "real", "true" syndrome. *GAG*

Hate it as much as you want, but terms are just words describing an idea. As Bita pointed out, it's the motivation behind the words. The inflection when spoken will also play a part in how it's perceived.

My problem with the term is that it is used as a throwaway to denote every bad habit out there. If I dont respond to your post, I am a wannabe. If I dont call you Sir, I am a wannabe. If I dont <insert whatever you like here>, I am a wannabe.

I think people who are so quick to judge other people as "wannabes or <generally useless people no matter what term you use>" should really stop and remember that they too used to be one of these until they got smarter. But then again, if they are using terms such as this, how much smarter are they really?

newbie = beginner; maybe we should say inexperienced [too many syllables] not meant to be derogatory
wannabe = clueless wanker. Come to think of it I've only seen male wannabes whether
they think they're sub or dom. Was, is and always will be derogatory AKA HNG = Horny Net Geek

A wannabe needs a hook n' ladder to reach newbie

Well, one name for it is sadism and masochism. But just because there are people that like to go under the whip and people that will put them under the whip doesn't make them idiots.

Discipline, I know that you are not so obtuse to have missed my meaning. If so, let me offer a little clarification. I was not referring to individuals who enjoy the whip (or other implement) in their consensual play together.

i normally "use" the terms "novice" for a newbie, or a wannabe who's sincere in beginning their journey, and HNG for the "kneel B4 ME, bitch!!" LOL!!

i do agree though, that there are so many terms out there it's difficult to know which is correct or merely politically correct. i guess i'm not one for labels, although they do help start the search. As one who has been told, often, that i'm not a sub, much less a slave, i've learned just how much it hurts even when someone whom i see as totally clueless, still looks at me and laughs and applies a label to me that isn't even close. With a very few exceptions, i try to remember that how they see themselves it's just as important as how i see them.

i guess W/we have a different definition for "wannabe". To me it is a P/person that is not new. A "wannabe" usually is not S/someone that is learning or wants to learn. It is S/someone W/who "plays" at the lifestyle. If that makes sense. i was not refering to play play when i said "plays" either. Thank Y/you
