jlf1961 -> Browncoats UNITE (4/14/2014 7:03:59 PM)

Petitions failed, fan outcry failed.

We have been ignored too long!

It is time to form a paramilitary political action committee to force congress to do the following:

1) Return Firefly to the prime time lineup with a guaranteed 20 year run, which will consist of the 20 new seasons, and no reruns for 1040 weeks

2) A federal agency that will take ideas from sci fi and research the possibility of developing them into viable technology. Some of us want replicants and replicators.

Secondary demands:

Healthcare reform that makes sense, not some convoluted mess like the Affordable Care Act.

A Balanced budget that covers the necessities, defense, infrastructure, education and getting people off welfare and to work.

Government incentives to bring jobs back to the US.

Now of course the most important demands are the primary, if we get the secondary demands, great, if not, oh well.

Damn, is it Unification Day? I couldn't resist Jeff. Seen and enjoy your posts here and know we stomped over some of the same ground at different times.

Who be you and what did you do to the you you used to be?

OwnerOfFems -> RE: Browncoats UNITE (4/14/2014 8:37:33 PM)

I be me. Not a newbie (to the) site, but what the hell finally decided to post on the forms. Always been a fan of the Firefly series and enjoyed your tag line from the episode where they were going after Niska on the station. Retired Army; Korea, Japan, SWA, and GITMO.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Browncoats UNITE (4/15/2014 3:16:36 AM)

Seems like all the vets on here are Firefly fans. Also Doctor Who Whovains. Just something about space and/or time...

Moonhead -> RE: Browncoats UNITE (4/15/2014 5:09:37 AM)

Or it could be an age thing, as the vets are (mostly) a bit older?
Of course, there's no argument that certain types of SF are very popular with those serving in the forces (Heinlein springs to mind, just for a start...)
I didn't know that there was a Unification Day to commemorate Firefly, though. That's great.

DomKen -> RE: Browncoats UNITE (4/15/2014 5:37:14 AM)

Jeff must be too far out in the sticks to make it to an annual Can't Stop The Serenity screening.

Unification day is an Alliance holiday celebrating the victory over the independents.

Well I'm old enough to be a vet but being where I am I wasn't conscripted, so I wasn't.

I'm a Whovian but not a Firefly fanatic.
It was Ok, but not great IMHO.

I know, but given Mal spent the whole series and the film in a massive sulk over that happening, it would be quite cool to commemorate the series with that, if a specific date was ever cited. [:D]

OwnerOfFems -> RE: Browncoats UNITE (4/15/2014 6:15:27 PM)

Mal always seemed to find himself in an Alliance friendly bar on Unification Day. You know, in need of a quiet drink... not looking to start a fight or anything.

Veteran. Not old. Don't give a shit about Dr Whoever the fuck it is this week. Caught Firefly on Netflix long after it was cancelled. Prefer Asimov, Card and Clarke to Heinlein.

Hey I agree but I want The Unit back on for 20 years. Fighting the enemies of democracy...covertly, in black...out black. Fighting for truth, justice and...the American way.

I want healthcare like in the good old days but with tomorrows profits...$3000/day ER care, $100,000 heart bi-pass surgery and $2 million/yr hospital administrators. When life expectancy falls to 65, we won't need medicare anymore...nobody will be old enough.

A balanced budget we will have next week, while the feds create 2nd 'capital' budget...to spend, spend and spend some more.

.....and real jobs program with a minimum wage of $10/hr with govt. handouts er...incentives of $9/hr for every person I hire...12 years old to 80. (oh wait, I forgot, nobody lives past 65)

And my primary demand...a new FPIC, a Federal Profit Insurance Corp. so all businesses could pay a single payer...fed. govt. a premium every month to guarantee my business a quarterly profit. The higher your premium...the higher your 'profits.'

I mean let's get some meaningful shit back on the TV and 'grow' this economy hey...stop mess'n around.

(Oh. and will they finally get Oprah off the air ? I mean losing $330 million while she sticks $240 million of it in her pocket ? Geez, I love corporatism but that's getting a bit ridiculous...isn't it ?)

No offense, but you might as well give up on this like everyone else has, Joss himself included. Fox is, was, and never will, sell the rights to Firefly. Most likely because people want them to, and we all know how idiotic the suits are at Fox. Just put this request in a grave, place a holo-marker on it, and move on. Let the grieving process begin...

joether -> RE: Browncoats UNITE (4/16/2014 6:46:14 AM)

Other than the Firefly parts, how is all the material NOT on the P&R board?

Yeah, I agree, Firefly is one of those shows (like Jericho) that was not explained in the right order. It was under funded, had a really good cast and crew. A story that was original but played to some past references to things. The episodes were great to watch, its the withdrawal that none more will be made that is the worst.

So if fans of Firefly were ever to put the cash together, could make such a production. Or a couple rich fans....

Yep. Positive.

Contrary to what some think, we are a very diverse group.

Moonhead -> RE: Browncoats UNITE (4/16/2014 7:38:17 AM)

I'm just surprised that two of the SF writers you name are notorious lefties: given some of what you come out with in P&R, I'd have thought Heinlein and Pournelle would be more your speed than Asimov and Clarke.

Trust me, with some of the things he says, he is a vet.

I'm a vet, and I really didn't warm to Firefly or Dr. Who (with the possible exception of that seventies one with the curly hair-I liked him). I'm more a Heinlein/Pournelle guy for written, and SW/BSG for visual SF.
