Lol, there are already laws which manage our every day lives, social norms and constraints and prevent us from doing something people don agree with. You don't pay taxes, you face repercussions. If you don't want to move forward with the rest of humanity you can stay behind in the caves and stay out of the rest of our way. If the liberal "disease" is the scientific and cultural advancement and betterment of humanity, then the conservative disease is greed coupled with an ignorant inability to conform to a changing world while blaming said world for their insecurities.

No the liberal disease is much better characterized as:

A misunderstanding that those in government are more noble than those in business.
A belief that somehow, it is ok to break the rules to accomplish what you want. Ie., shut up 'deniers'. Ie., Operation Sit-in. AKA. Operation Pink. Aka the irs targeting of conservatives. AKA the benghazi whitewash.
A belieft that dims are better than pubs.

Not a complete definition mind you, but a start.

The government is in no way more noble or virtuous than those in business. But unlike business, the government SHOULD have the people's best interests in mind, whereas a business only cares about the bottom dollar.

Liberals dont shut up deniers, we just don't give equal value to hypotheses which have already been debunked/have no weight in reality. You don't give any credit to those who claim the world is flat do you?

Operation sit in: People are allowed to protest. Operation pink: Is a movement to provide support for cancer victims. IRS: Liberal groups were also targeted but cons conveniently leave that bit out. Benghazi: a fake scandal trying to grasp at straws. Dems better than pubs? Not by much, they're a lesser of two evils and equally bought out by industry.

Go pay homage to your weirdo beliefs and please leave the rest of us to actually manage humanity in a responsible way.

Fuck that. I don't need my humanity "managed" by anyone but myself.

I'm sorry but on your own you are not "humanity" as used in my post, but nice try.

The thing that is ultimately irritating is that while all the deniers sit around doing nothing because they think nothing needs to be done, earth is at ever increased risk. Again, like so many other issues, if people's personal beliefs affect others negatively then they need to just leave the rest of us alone. All the deniers can get together and pray, or whatever the f*** they want, but the rest of us need to worry about climate change and global warming or we will die out as a species while destroying the planet in the process. Deniers just need to get out of the way (just like anti-abortionists, people who don't believe income inequality creates instability, racists, anti-vaccination people etc.) Go pay homage to your weirdo beliefs and please leave the rest of us to actually manage humanity in a responsible way. Because the deniers are excellent at doing piss all. And doing piss all has NEVER once saved humanity in the past. It's a dud strategy. So leave the doers alone to at least try and improve things instead of standing in the way of not just progress, but a future.

I have a hard time embracing your idea of a future when you spew such venom at anyone with a religious belief. It seems to cloud any issue you post about and makes you look like a raving bigot.

Nowhere in my post do I use the word "religious". This is your interpretation. A "belief" is NOT necessarily religious. Some people don't believe in climate change. That is their belief. And praying to that belief or paying homage to that belief has NOTHING to do with religion.

(A surprising number of people here really need ESL).

You seem to be confused. Nothing in that post attacks everyone with religious beliefs. Your own bigotry is clouding your judgment.

She is implying that all the deniers are also religious or she wouldn't be making cracks about them running along to pray or making homage to their weirdo beliefs. You and I both know it and I am not sure why you are pretending not to. Oh And pointing out that someone constantly make nasty cracks about religious isn't any more bigoted than pointing out that fred phelps was a homophobe. Her past posts speak for themselves.

I am implying NOTHING of the kind. This is your interpretation. See my prior post about the meaning of the word "belief". Are you denying that some people BELIEVE in climate change and others do not. It is my BELIEF that climate change is occurring and it is affecting the planet in a negative way. Surely you are not going to tell me that climate change is "god" (????!!!!)

Neither the word "prayer" nor "homage" is restricted to religion. People can pray/pay homage to anything and anyone - including BELIEFS that have nothing to do with religion (like, for example CLIMATE CHANGE).

(ESL really would help some on these boards…)

We expect our politicians to lie outright to us. Why not scientists?

Because that would require one hell of a conspiracy. If you don't believe the icebergs are melting, go have a look. If you don't believe that storms are getting more powerful, that flooding is more common, and droughts are more severe, have a look at the news. There is no "fire season" in California anymore, because it's now year-round.
There are also cold hard, verifiable facts that point to the conclusion that man is causing global climate change. The evidence is out there, if people care to look. There are clear explanations of why the deniers' theories don't hold water, also.

If you don't believe in science, you really have to wonder how we're even able to have this discussion on a global network connected by copper wires, optical fiber, satellite relays, wireless networks, and little boxes capable of trillions of floating point computations per second. I have faith that every single letter I type into this will be stored with 100% accuracy on a server thousands of miles away from where I typed it, for you to read, wherever you happen to me, using whatever device you choose to use, because it's all based on rock solid science. I don't have the same faith in politicians, for obvious reasons.

What does ESL have to do with anything? English is my first language and your posts are very clear.

Says you. Obviously, to the "deniers" they do hold water. So who arbitrates this dispute? Scientists, right? Last I checked, scientists were human and there are very definite agendas.

But more fundamentally, my point was that we live in a culture where the very concept of "the truth" or "a fact" has been subverted. Whether or not there are actual truths and actual facts, we are bombarded so regularly with lies that the actual truth:lie ratio has just got to be something obscene. Wanna hear a bunch of lies? Turn on the TV? Want to read them? Time magazine has you covered? Or hey, if PBS is more your style feel free to go there.

All that being said, I do believe in global warming. I think the scale of the proposed lying lacks credibility... or I would have up until I watched people sell the idea that poor people caused the economic crisis. Honestly, having watched that one sold I now believe that you can sell anything to pretty much anyone.
