And since when was the ultra-nationalist Putin a Communist? The few admirers of Putin outside of Russia are among the crackpot right wing fringes of European politics like Marine Le Pen and Nigel Farage.
The fact is that Russian policy in Europe has been a disaster in the past 20 years, not only are nearly all of its former Warsaw Pact allies in the EU and NATO but so are three former Soviet Republics. Russia has little to offer these nations that now look West, have built parliamentary democracies and civil societies.
