I live within range of Canadian artillery . . . if the Canadians have artillery.

Tkman117 -> RE: Russian troops are within artillery range of the US (3/27/2014 7:29:51 PM)

I honestly don't even know the answer to that [:D] But if we do, they're probably aimed at the russians considering the way harper is handling this issue [8|]

And know which end the shells come out of.

As Arya Stark says, "Stick them with the pointy end."

You guys do realize that the OP was trying to make a funny, right?

Pretty much, seeing as this thread didn't start here.

If you knew where that line came from you would have your answer.

SIGH>>>> FUD mongering press...
From friends who were stationed there; the sentries on Adack would wave at their Russkie counterparts on rare clear days. And the occasional chess match played by signals to pass a long watch might have happened. A listening and radar outpost in the asshole of beyond is only a huge threat in the mind of an advertising sales rep. at a news entertainment organization.

I thought that is what Jon told her as her first lesson but I could be remembering it wrong.

yes, I'm gonna start calling 'em Soviets again, cause Pooty-Poot wants to recreate the USSR.

A "soviet" is a council; they predate the Russian Revolution.

I don't care. That's what I was trained to call 'em, that's what I call 'em. Ivan, Red, Commie, Pinko. I was thoroughly indoctrinated, comrade.

I've already started calling them Soviets again.

I more than half expect the Feds are going to encourage them. The War on Terror being all fake and everything. Can't keep pulling our legs forever.

And Ivan also harks back not to the Soviet Union, but to Czarist Russia, before the Russian Revolution.

Your indoctrination was sloppy.

FYI this entire thread was inspired by Berkeley Breathed.

Actually, I just used the fact that at one point on the map, Russia is only 2 1/2 miles from US soil. Two Islands, 2 and half miles apart.

Moonhead -> RE: Russian troops are within artillery range of the US (3/29/2014 7:11:00 AM)

Breathed probably mentioned it elsewhere during the '80s as well, then.

But effective. I spent a long time running around singing about "Kill a commie for my mommy" back at Ft. Sill. I trained to fight that war, not the ones we ended up fighting. They didn't care as much for exactitude as they did results. To this day, I pride myself at being able to ID Warsaw Pact vehicles and aircraft, and how to kill them, even though I'll never see a battlefield. We respected them, but detested them simply for being what they were. We were trained to dehumanize them as efficiently as they could, because if Fulda Gap happened, we'd be up to our necks in it.

And you folks thought he was just a Muslim, he is a communist sympathizer.

Russia isn't communist anymore...

Perhaps not, but whether it is or isn't has nothing whatsoever to do with Obama, aka Soetoro, aka Soebarkah, having been a Communist sympathizer ever since Communist Party USA member and activist Frank Marshall Davis became his mentor.

Well just as a reminder, with booming corporate profits, the Dow at what, 6 new highs, the great and glorious temple of capitalist monetary banking buying up now 'only' $65 billion/mon. of capitalist shit paper, Russian currency worth little more than my real shit paper, and I can still send the great American capitalist jobs to the real communists in China...that's my kinda communism. Go Obama !!

Funny how people can see the writing on the wall, yet still need others to spell it out for them ?

But as for the state of affairs...I say DefCon 5 people !! NOW !! I think we've got DefCon 5 up to almost $billion/day...don't we ? I think we should just stay at DefCon 5, 24/7...make some real money for a new kinda cold war.

Maybe Palin can see the troops from her house.

I am completely serious, and there is a part of Alaska where you can see Russia, if it is a clear day.

Amazing how many things Tina Fey said that are credited to Palin.

Wasn't Tina Fey, when asked about foreign relations experience (It may have been the Kouric interview), she said as Governor of Alaska that Russia was right across the Bering Sea and could be seen on a clear day......

The other thing that the OP left out is that Russia and Alaska at one point are a very short distance away, Big Diomede Island and Little Diomede Island are close together, and one is Russia's, one is the US's.
