Status: offline 		A result of the "all or nothing" style of politics now practiced in this country. Speaking as a gun owner, the complete removal of background checks seems rather irresponsible. I'm not at all surprised by the results, if accurate.

True, but I was only talking about Missouri state law. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I'm assuming that background checks are being done only by the gun dealers now since local LEOs aren't required to be involved anymore...which to me seems unwise.

That is the way it has always been in Alabama and it doesn't seem to have caused problems.

Oh, that's a favourite here in the UK: A BBC spoof documentary shown on April 1st. Huge numbers were April Fooled at the time . . . and it still worked many years later, on me, when I first saw it in my early teens. Those BBC scamps!

Status: offline 		Well, at least the BBC refrained from using the word "nuts" in their headline, unlike some of the other stuff that popped up in a quick googling.

Of course, the BBC still doesn't mention who conducted the study, or who financed it, and I have a strong inkling that they'll miss the follow-up debunking reports entirely.

Here in American Polite, one needs to consider that no amount of studies or dead bodies will sway the gun-nutteria.


We have over 3000 children killed by firearms every year here and that number could be 30,000.....it still wouldn`t matter to the most selfish cry-babies in the world....

Indeedies. Easy and widespread availability of firearms make murders more likely to occur. It's hardly rocket science is it?

Especially as there is another thread happening here illustrating perfectly how the easy access to guns enables murders and gun wounds arising out of an otherwise low key altercation . I am referring to the thread about a theatre-going ex-cop shooting another person dead and injuring one other. The altercation began with a disagreement over one person texting in the theatre. The presence of a gun facilitated the escalation from a trivial disagreement to a fatal one.

Had there been no guns present the outcome of the situation would have been very different. The obvious concluison is that the dead person would be alive today had no guns been present.

I know a lot of people who own guns and a lot of those who don't own them who think they should not be banned. Not one of them thinks they should just throw out the background checks and regulations and just let anyone who wants a gun, carry one. Now I am sure they are out there, I just don't think they are the majority. I have no clue why they dropped background checks in this situation but it was obviously a bad idea.
