Where the guy has a secretary to type all his notes...it's so anachronistic

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: I looooove old black and white 30's movies.... (1/15/2014 7:39:44 PM)

Please note that all the secretaries wear heels, stockings and short (for the time) skirts. Also, they always call their boss Mister. ______.

Mister is a variation of Master.

BTW: You might like the movie 'Secretary.'

It's about a young girl who becomes a, you guessed it, secretary. She also wears a saddle at one point. I showed it to a slave and she just stared in abject awe at the movie.

That was an AWESOME movie...so erotic yet barely any sex scenes or nudity...

And the stockings are held in place by garters attached to a belt (as are the Kotex sanitary napkins she no doubt wears during "that" time, but I digress) and have seams up the backs [:)]

Yeah, the staccato "But Johnny!!!!"...."Shut up kid, I don't needja...yer no good to me, dead I tell ya...DEAD!"..."Oh Johnny....why do you treat me like this?"...."Someday kid you'll understand but, I'm a drifter....I don't have no home"...."Oh Johnny....I could give ya a home, and children too"....."ahhhh....kid....yer sweet, but....my kind wasn't made for the white picket fence, the five o'clock whistle...."

But don't forget girdles.. and the stocking straps attached to them.
My mom felt so liberated when they allowed panty hose in the workplace (late 60s) so she didn't have to wear all the damned elastic that lift itchy red marks on her after a days work.

I love old b & w movies. Even love the serials that used to play on TV on Saturday afternoons. Damn Ted Turner for colorizing so many old classics and not allowing everyone now to see them as they were intended.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: I looooove old black and white 30's movies.... (1/21/2014 5:36:20 PM)

Something I just remembered:

In college I took a screenwriting class. One of the movies we watched was 'Casablanca.' The professor, who had been teaching this class for years and obviously had watched this movie many, many times, kept pausing it to say, "I wish I could write dialogue like that."

Movies from the era you are talking about didn't have massive special effects budget so they relied upon dialogue to separate themselves from the competition. 'It Happened One Night' (1934) is another classic example. You will recognize every scene in the movie because it has been copied _that_ much.

an affair to remember (the original), sally & saint anne, all that heaven allows, and the original ghost & Mrs. Muir...they don't make 'em like that anymore

but my fave b&W is still young frankenstein

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: I looooove old black and white 30's movies.... (1/21/2014 6:28:42 PM)

I saw Young Frankenstein around the Christmas holidays. Mel Brooks and b & w go together soooo well.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: I looooove old black and white 30's movies.... (1/21/2014 7:49:22 PM)

That however, is not an old timey movie. It was a deliberate attempt to recreate it. I love 'Yound Franstein' (that's FRANKENSHTEEN!) It's one of the funniest movies ever. It is not what the original post was about.

Strange thing about the old black and white classics, they didnt need nudity to invoke something erotic, they didnt need blood and gore to make a scary movie.

Stewart Granger, Bogart, Bacall, Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, and countless other true movie stars.

smileforme50 -> RE: I looooove old black and white 30's movies.... (1/21/2014 8:37:24 PM)

I'm an Alfred Hitchcock addict....I LOOOOOVVVVVEEEE "Rear Window", "North By Northwest" and "Dial M for Murder" Those are all from the 50s so maybe a little later than the original topic but still....

I swear I was born 40 years too late....women today can swoon all over Pitt and Clooney......I was in love with Cary Grant from the time I first saw him in "Bringing Up Baby" when I was about 8 years old. "Arsenic and Old Lace"....."The Philadelphia Story"....I could go on and on...

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: I looooove old black and white 30's movies.... (1/21/2014 8:46:47 PM)

I own Arsenic and Old Lace on DVD. Christmas in Connecticut, Bells of St Mary's, Miracle on 34th Street, I Love Lucy shows, Don Knotts, Abbott & Costello movies, The Little Rascals. A whole bunch that I've found at bargain basement prices since most people don't appreciate them anymore.

sexyred1 -> RE: I looooove old black and white 30's movies.... (1/21/2014 8:53:54 PM)

I love the clothes, jewels and hair of those old movies. And yes, there was a steaminess to them, especially in fiim noir that cannot be beat.

Missokyst -> RE: I looooove old black and white 30's movies.... (1/21/2014 8:58:45 PM)

What I miss most about those B&W movies were the actors. Bogart, Grant, Mitchum, Tierney, Harrison, all wonderful actors who relied on delivering a believable line rather than jumping out of the way of a blast. I miss plots!
