It seems to me that there are so many people who get what they want in life, at the expense of others. I'm not talking about criminals who will rob you. Or kill you for personal gain. I'm talking about your average person, people who are at your work or other family members.
People who will yell and scream at another until he/she gets his/her own way. And they don't have a conscious to realize the harm they cause in life.

Some people have the "win-win" attitude in life; both parties win. But the people I'm talking about have the "win-fuck you" attitude.

Don't you agree that people who get what they want out of life, at the expense of others, have it better?

that is so not true because one cannot lump individuals in a box because we are all different just look in the mirror with another next to you

I disagree. I think in the end, they get their come-uppances.

or in other words - karma is a bitch!

I think people with the attitude that they have to win at everything are miserable individuals. They might not show it, but they are not happy people. My ex was one of those people and I'm way happier than he is - even though he is financially better of than me.
And as far as the family? - the kids live in my state , not his - which tells you something about their relationship with him. He wouldn't appreciate it, but I feel sorry for him - now that he isn't in my life anymore.

so no, they don't have it better in life. They may think they do, but they don't.

That only works if you can keep moving. Otherwise your being as jerk will catch up to you.

I've had to pick up the pieces more than once.

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say you have to keep moving. I know of relationships where one is very narcissistic and gets everything he/she wants. They surround themselves with enablers that support this persons behavior. I was hoping you could expand on what you wrote.

No.

Do people who use stolen profile photos have it better? Please let us know.

No, I don't think they have it better.

People who scream until they get their own way are rarely happy, and many of them are terribly lonely.

Yes i have seen folks abuse others for their own personal gain. It is unfortunate and just a fact of life. BUT I do not think they have it better. Think of the movie Scrooge.

I have had others fuck me over but I'm sure I've fucked others over too. But at this age it is not a win-win for anyone. I just lose the bitterness and count my blessings and try not to step on others toes to get what i want.

Nope. They may find a doormat or two, but by and large they end up alone. And/or with abuse charges hanging over them.

In the end there is an emptiness that cannot be filled.

That sounds poetic but it's not. It's a truth.

You have no idea how hard it is to pick up the pieces of broken promises.

I feel a rant coming on:

You fucktards that have children without even thinking about how you are going to take care of them are scum. You leave it to me to pick up the broken pieces, or worse: you don't even give a fuck. Just fucking die already, the life insurance is better than anything you can provide.

Sorry, I've had experiences lately which mostly put me in a "shooty" mood.

I had a distant oousin like that. Someone poisoned her. She had jerked around so many people that they never found out who did it. True story.

Well, duh.

Not to mention that it's funny as hell when somebody makes being more assertive in life their New Year's resolution, and then gets punched in the face because he tries that shit on the wrong person.

One day they'll be lying in a hospital with no one there to offer love, no one to mourn them. The mills of God grind slow but exceedingly fine.

I don't agree for 2 reasons, OP. First, being a jerk only works if there are enablers to pull it off. There's a limited supply of those, because eventually people wise up. Second, jerks have to live in their own skin. It becomes absolute hell when it starts feeling like a bath in boiling oil.

Any jerk can get what they want.

The best question would be whether or not it makes them happy.

(Possession is not joy.)

I wish I could edit my post. Happiness and unhappiness is so subjective. Who can judge if another person is happy or unhappy. A grumpy and irritable person could appear unhappy to someone, but inside he/she may really like their life. A sensitive and well-rounded person could be unhappy in life.

What I mean is that people who get what they want, at the expense of others, have a better life, because they get all their needs met. I have a friend, who is a divorce attorney, and if he can legally rob you, he will. It seems to me he has no regard for his fellow man. Yet, he has a loving wife and children. Lives in the best part of the city.

Getting what you want is not the same as having what you need, either.

I can think of a number of wants I have, none of which would actually improve the quality of my life.

The key here, OP, is to recognize that your needs are not met simply through acquisition; moreover, that acquisition does not define quality, let alone joy.

If you were to have said, a jerk who doesn't recognize they are a jerk, and who does everything they enjoy doing without guilt, has a more enjoyable life, well, from their perspective that might be true. The same could also be said of the penitent altruist who finds merit in each small act of grace they can perform.

I don't see a jerk as a winner. I see a jerk as a jerk. Win, lose, profit, loss, joy, emptiness, these are transient hobo philosophers who knock on your back door, looking for scraps of wisdom (and perhaps shelter from the cold light of unending possibilities).

Oddly enough I had this discussion the other day. A patient worked in customer service for a well-known electronic manufacturer and I chatted with her a bit. She told me that there are some additional options at her disposal to handle customers who call and have a temper tantrum and hold their breath until blue. It is my guess that many other companies have similar rewards for jumbo toddlers who throw these sorts of fits. So yes in some ways jerks do have a material advantage over those who comport themselves in an age-appropriate manner.

I've got to an age where I really don't care if a jerk is a jerk. I'm a decent person, I surround myself with decent people. I spend my mental and emotional energy caring about those decent people, which means I don't have enough left over to waste on jerks.

I'm guessing that I'm not alone in this philosophy and eventually jerks will end up being surrounded by jerks, which is a kind of poetic justice really.
