I used the Daily Show link, and got the added bonus of the riff on Pres. Obama updating his previous misspeakment, and clarifing that when he said the healthcare website would be fixed in November, he didn't mean THIS November.

It really is annoyingly stupid, isn't it, when someone reads a news story about doings in another country, and assume they know enough to comment on the process?

The guy is mighty entertaining though.

Thiis bit from the local newspaper wraps it up fairly neatly. Provincial can do it, so it wouldnt need to go to the feds, altho Harper is probably backing his friend to the hilt.
I do see a change in the bylaws soon

City council has no power to remove him on its own. It is not a parliamentary system, so council can’t hold a non-confidence vote. There are no political parties at the city level, so Mr. Ford can’t be ousted by members of his caucus.

There is no impeachment process or provision for a recall vote. Unless the mayor is convicted and sentenced to jail, he can’t be removed on legal grounds, and the mayor does not face criminal charges in any case.

With city council hog-tied, it is up to the province to act, using its power as the senior level of government to pass legislation allowing for the removal of a sitting mayor. That’s possible in theory; the laws that govern cities are made by the province. But it would set a dreadful precedent.

It was my understanding that only the provincial or the federal parliament could remove him.

It was my understanding that only the provincial or the federal parliament could remove him.

I have never heard of anyone properly elected doing that before, or any situation where it was called for.. even if the feds or province could do anything, why would they want to get involved in that dog fight? Each province has its own regulations regarding municipalities, so it depends what Ontario's regs state..

He has been (according to this article from a year ago) been removed from office due to other trouble in 2012 (yet not removed?).. I am not sure what the story is or why he is still "Mayor".. but if he had any honour at all, he would resign and never darken City Hall's steps again..

Well, I never took 5th grade civics in Canada, or even watched the CBC version of Schoolhouse Rock, so I have no idea what the options might be to remove him from office.

I do know, the comment about having the all the (pussy?) he needs to eat at home is one of the funniest things I have ever heard come out of a politician's mouth.

Maybe ya'll should re-elect him. It couldn't hurt the tourism.
