Are you at all concerned that the US is chock full of "low information voters?" Those voters who hear Dear Leader and believe everything that comes out of his mouth, and cling to it as tightly as some others cling to their guns and Bibles? And, not to appear one-sided, you have low information voters on the right, too. I'd be surprised if the number of low information voters vastly outnumbered voters who pay attention.
So, the ones that paid attention knew, but Obama wasn't talking to those people. He was talking to those people that would take what he said and proudly wear it on their sleeves for everyone to see. If there's anything Obama knows, it's how to campaign, and, damn it all, that was a great campaign tactic.
